2. I actually thought about her when I read the Falwell story
Since both of them "died after being found unconscious". Nope, they were already dead (unresponsive), but only a doctor can officially pronounce someone dead. Even the paramedics have to do compressions on a totally dead guy, until the doc calls time of death.

Just bugs me when articles say "died on the way to the hospital" when they're found with no pulse and no respiration.

4. I think it depends on whether or not the person still has a pulse
when my FIL died in his sleep last year here, we called 911 and told them he was dead and they sent a firetruck, but no paramedics, just the medical examiner.

6. Maybe it's the length of time?
CPR is usually not performed after 15 minutes of no breathing. In ANS' case, her bodyguard had started CPR before the paramedics got there, so I guess they had to continue.

Still, it was inaccurate (in her case) to report she "died on the way to the hospital".

7. Could be. If you report that rigor has already set in
they probably don't bother with the paramedics.
