They lost 11-2 to one of the suckiest teams in the AL. I can't remember who the cockeyed optimist was who posted last night, but all I can say is "I told ya so!"
The Curse is alive and well, unfortunately.

4. No offense intended-I like the Orioles |

I didn't mean to dis your team. I am just majorly pissed at my team. They supposedly have the best offense in the AL, but they've only scored 6 runs in 4 games.

Just win the divsion title and let us ride your back as the wild card, I want the series but if you guys win, well if I can lemme come up to Boston lol.

My Tigers are the worst team in baseball -- and I'm counting clear down to Rookie League level. Ah yes, lose or lose BIG -- it's STILL Tiger baseball. John Been to Comerica three times this year and the Tigers lost all three: To the Yankees, 10-9 in 17 innings (keeping Roger Clemens from getting his 300th W in the Motor City), to Arizona 7-0 (that was ugly) and to the Bosox 3-2 in 11. Will return at least two more times this year (and, career-wise at the new park, I'm 6-6 overall).

I think my optimism was ill-advised,after watching this game. I was even fool enough to be lulled into a false sense of well-being when Nomar hit a 2-run homer in the 5th to put the Sox ahead by a run.I should know better by now and I guess the curse is eternal after all:(

16. There is no way that is true |
|
Have you been to Boston or NYC during a series w/ the BoSox? The intense hatred for each team is beyond anything. Each season the Red Sox set themselves up full of hope; "this is the year, truly!" they cry. And each year is more tragic than the last. The O's hate the Yankees primarily recently with the ahole GM Angelos in charge- he's the one that let hometown hero Mike Mussina go to the Yankees. In all of sports, there is nothing that comes close to the Yankees and Red Sox rivarly. It will continue til the end of the game.

.......pretty much every damn team on the planet hates the Yankees :) It's pretty much the Yankees VS The Rest Of MLB. But relax. The Yankees have a weak bullpen- they won't get far into the post season, sadly...:(

20. Funny thing about Red Sox fans |
|
Most of them are liberal. In NYC, most Yankee fans are Republican. Mets fans, however, are quite Democratic. It's very interesting- baseball truly is an example of how money alters politics. As much as I hate to admit it, the Yankees are the RW of baseball... So, I could deal with a liberal BoSox fan. I can't deal with Republican BoSox fans- that's 2 strikes against them ;)

Well they are in the best liberal town imo, Boston. I really dont hate the yankees like I used to, they used to be like how the republicans are now to me not really. I dont know the mets lol imo are like the DLC they try to be like the yanks and dont to so well. That being said I prefer humble small market clubs.

22. Small market clubs rule |
|
...I was just born and raised with the Yankees and I love the bastards. DJ, Jorge, O'Neill, I have found memories from my teen years of these guys kicking ass in September and October. One of the best teams of all time was the team from '95-'2001. Second to Murderer's Row, and it can be argued that they were better. I disagree, but I have sentimental value with the team. I'm a sap for Jeter- so sue me :) Part of the problem in baseball is the owners. Case in point: Detroit. The owner also owns the hockey team Red Wings and spends far more money on them then the Tigers. He has the money to make the Tigers a GREAT team, but is not funding them. I know the Yankees piss me off with the way they sign big time free agents (Mussina, Giambi), but oftentimes, it's just not the Yankees' fault. With Mussina, it was the ahole GM Angelos, with Giambi is was also the GM's fault for not including a no-trade clause. Giambi was going to sign with Oakland- but he did not because of the lack of the no trade clause. He didn't sign with the Yankees because of the money, he signed because of the no trade clause. The Yankees manage people well. If other teams (like the Expos and Kansas City) locked up their stars and refused to deal to the Yankees and the Red Sox, then boy, they could kick some tail a few years down the road when they have some new arms. /rant

|
I was the same with the orioles. All the ladies here love Jeter heh. I havent seen no one lol drool over Delvi Cruz, dont worry about that, he was a cruddy off season pick imo. The A's even without Giambi are doing well but they never really make it far that is to the series. I had no idea that was the case with Giambi. I hate Angelos hes an a-hole to say the least. Billy Beane actually their GM is known as one of the better GMs out there. We dont have the problem they do in Detroit however, Art Modell owns the ravens, and we well Baltimore doesnt have a basketball or hockey team. Who you root for in football? I dont like the deadskins aka the redskins, I am a Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Mussina wanted to stay in his homestate with his family, but the O's had to give him grief. Seriously, when the team is going through problems like the O's did, it should be a priority to sign a guy like Mussina to a long term deal and not let him go to a rival team such as the Yankees. BTW, it's not JUST the ladies that love Jeter....he's popular with everyone! :D And on that note, I am retiring to my bed.

Mike Mussina Robin Ventura (until he got traded to the Dodgers) Jason is pretty cute Jeter Andy Pettitte
Despite that, this Sox fan still hates them. But they are nice to watch-especially when they're gettin' their ass wooped!

29. The Detroit dichotomy |
|
We're all completely schiz when it comes to Mike Illitch. The very same people (myself included here) who bitch about the condition of the Tigers over the past ten years LOVE the guy when they drop the puck at Joe Louis Arena. I personally wish that Mr I would sell the Tigs to someone like Don Barden (who is rich as Croesus and would become the first black MLB owner), but it isn't going to happen anytime soon. At least Illitch bought the team away from Tom Monaghan -- he of Domino's Pizza and Opus Dei notoriety. John A fact almost unknown outside of Michigan is that Mike Illitch played baseball in the Tiger system in the 1950s. He was an infielder, though not a particularly good one. This, of course, would make him a starter at Detroit today.

..considering all the cash the Red Sox blow on free agents. Every team would be the Yankees if they could: the Red Sox are no different.

He was on the orioles for a while. He was best as a setup man but lol that was 1997. If Rivera goes down and they have him as the closer the yankees are fucked.

Before the big surge. Best to get it out of the way now. Yes? See you all at the World Series.
Normally this kind of nitwit cockiness is most unlike me. But last Sunday, while Mussina was 2-hitting the Sox in the 7th, I decided to pre-empt my obnoxious Yankee fan pal (are there any other kind?) by calling him before he could call me. I got his machine of course because we don't take calls during games, and I said, "This is my rally call...and oh, there it is...a one-out walk to Nixon. I smell three or four runs coming!" Then I hung up. It's on his machine, folks! And all Sox fans know what happened next. So I've decided to adopt this arrogant Yankee attitude for the rest of the year. Sox blow past NY by mid September and never look back.
Then Bush loses.

I wish it was contagious! The Sox are playing the As and the Mariners a bunch of times in August...and the Yanks at the end of the month/early Sept. I am basing my pessimism on 30+ years of Red Sox fandom.

(Cover your ears, 'cuz Will Pitt's about to let out a blood-curdling scream...) Bill Buckner! Yeah, I said it -- BILL BUCKNER BILL BUCKNER BILL BUCKNER!!!! John I interviewed both Buckner and new Tiger Manager Alan Trammell on the same day -- my first as a baseball writer -- in 1986. Yes, that's the same year BILL BUCKNER let the three-hopper skip through his wickets. BB chews/ed a combination of chewing tobacco and bubble gum. It's as gross as it sounds. Don't let him breathe on you.

He was actually a decent ball player who will always be remembered for his one major gaffe.
When the Zakim-Bunker Hill Bridge was being built as part of the Big Dig project, the joke around town was to call it the Bill Buckner bridge because the girters look like two legs spread. Ah that Boston sense of irony...
