Did you ever think Creedence Clearwater Revival was from Louisiana?

Seems like I did, ages ago. With the references to Cajuns, bayous, and bullfrogs, I got the distinct impression they were from LA. It was somewhat disillusioning to find out they were from CA.

1. "Green River" was about Putah Creek, near Winters, California (Yolo County)...
Edited on Mon May-21-07 09:31 AM by BrotherBuzz
It's a relatively obscure body of water a dozen miles away from my house that Fogerty used to 'Summer' at as a kid, so I always assumed John Fogerty was a Northern Californian.

My buddy, a talented musician, but lousy businessman, even opened a tavern on Putah Creek called 'The Green River', honoring the CCR. He was lucky to sell it before they repossessed everything.

6. hey, i caught some trout on Putah Creek about 20 years ago...
nice place--and the water definitely had a greenish as opposed to blueish color. As far as I could gather, it was the nearest decent trout stream to the Bay Area

8. I fished Putah Creek, before the trout and dam, with my Grandparents
Putah creek was too warm for trout before they built the dam, and the creek really was green during the summer back in those days. Hell, the creek was nothing but a string of stagnant pools by late summer!

Indeed, today, there is a good stretch of trout fishing below the dam, but the trout population is now severely threatened from the invasion of a non-native snail called the New Zealand Mud Snail.

2. nope, they used to play at our high school, just a few miles from 'Lodi"
of their song.

The were known as the gollywhoppers or some such goofy name that escapes me at the moment

4. I thought they were referring to Lodi, New Jersey
and I thought the band was from Florida (Clearwater.) I was just a dorky East Coast kid.

7. there's a Lodi NJ?
who knew??

Lodi CA

Lodi (IPA: /ˈlo.daɪ/) (LOW-Dye) is a city located in San Joaquin County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city had a population of 56,999. As of a 2005 estimate, the city had a population of 62,133.<1>

Lodi is best known as a center of wine production (the "Zinfandel Capital of the World"), although its vintages have traditionally been less prestigious than those of Sonoma and Napa counties. However, in recent years, the Lodi Appellation has become increasingly respected for its Zinfandel wine and other eclectic varietals. Nearby Woodbridge is the home of a famous Robert Mondavi winery, Mondavi Woodbridge.

Lodi recently gained international attention when local residents Hamid and Umer Hayat were convicted in the first terrorism trial in the state of California. Both were alleged to be part of, or associated with, a terrorist sleeper cell. Their case has been controversial, and is pending appeal.<2>

It is an increasingly popular exurb for commuters priced out of homeownership in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The origin of the city's name is unclear.<3> Historians have not agreed whether Lodi was named after a winning racehorse, a bridge in Italy (site of a great Napoleonic battle), or a town in Illinois.

9. You'd know if you weren't a West Coast dork....
:hi:
There's a Lodi, Illinois??????

"Lodi is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. As of the United States 2000 Census, the borough population was 23,971. The Borough of Lodi is governed under the 1923 Municipal Manager Law.

Lodi was incorporated as a borough on December 22, 1894.....

The Bada Bing, is a fictional go-go bar from the HBO drama television series The Sopranos. All interior and exterior shots of the Bada Bing are filmed on location at Satin Dolls, an actual go-go bar in Lodi on Route 17."

Bergen County is Northern NJ near NYC. At the time CCR wrote "Lodi" the one in NJ was probably bigger than the one in CA, population trends being the way they are.

I had wine with a Lodi appellation just yesterday. Lodi California, that is.

5. Nope, I always knew they were from CA
Just couldn't figure out how they got so "Swampy."

Love them. John Fogerty wore a red plaid flannel with Blue Jeans and played a black Les Paul.

So did I, back in the day. :D

13. And Tom picked the wrong side of the fight with Sol Zaentz too
in my opinion. It was sad that the 2 brothers remained estranged until Tom's death.

14. 'Course not. They knew where Lodi was, to they were from NorCal.
People from lesser places don't tend to know little farmy towns off of the 99.

15. CCR from the Berkeley Area
I think John Fogerty spent a bit of time listening to blues at clubs in Oakland when growing up. It certainly shows.

Even the Doobie Brothers are from San Jose/Santa Cruz. Wonder where that Black Water is?
