Anyone ever worked as a professional recruiter?
I HAVE to leave the company i'm with. It is literally killing me.

I have an opportunity to do technical recruiting for hospitals. Problem is, its 100% commission. I might have some backing for the first 60 days (salary or 'draw' as it were).

This company is run by a dear friend of mine and she has tons of contracts in the health care industry. I'm leary as hell going commission but it might be my only choice right now (for other reasons).

Anyone done this? Advice needed.

:hi:

1. I recruited for da man, does that count?
It all depends on what you are recruiting for. Is the industry ethical? Could you do the job and still look yourself in the mirror?

3. I have an acquaintance who is a recruiter for higher education executive
positions. Her compensation is base salary plus commission and bonuses. She also has a good benefits package.

I feel the same way as you do---I'm leery of commission-only. But if she can guarantee the 60 days' draw, it might be at least a stepping stone until you can find a more stable position.

Then again, you might love it and do exceedingly well in her company. :)

4. Nope
But I wonder if you could talk to the current recruiter or look at the amounts of commission over time.

Is there a way to take a few weeks off to try your hand at recruiting.

Sounds risky, but potentially a good opportunity.

If you drew a salary for the first sixty days, you could use that time to also look for a fallback job - if you sense that the commissions won't be enough.

5. well the comissions are fairly generous
about $4k per placement (based on a candidate's salary of $50k (low end). she told me it takes typically 30-45 days to get a candidate placed (interviews, 2 week notice, 15 days paid from the candidate's start date). so it would take a couple of months to get a pipeline going.

8. My brother was one, at one time.
He liked it. As for commissions. THAT is the way to make some serious change. I would say to go for it. With your personality, I think you'd be great at it.

good luck.
