Not because other people are nasty, but because it is easy to believe they are *trying* to be nasty. It is too easy to believe they aren't really objective and are instead spewing talking points and tying themselves in knots to crush an argument that may be critical of the candidate they support. And the scariest part is how easy it is to react to that, and get angry yourself, and start filling your posts with capital letters and an arrogant tone. You feel that they are misquoting and simplifying issues on purpose to obfuscate the issue and draw you into a lengthy debate.
Then you calm down, and respond like a rational person. You start some give-and-take, and you realize everybody on this board has an equal capacity for suspicion, anger, arrogance, and general nuttiness, but more importantly they have an equal capacity for rational, concilatory thought.

I have my favorite, I know who I'm fine voting for...even holding my nose for Lieberman...don't see any reason to venture in.

I have my candidate. I have no reason to explain myself to anyone or listen to a bunch of accusations about my candidate.

before it was GD2004. It just wasn't my cup of tea. If I want to look at platforms I go to the candidate's websites. If I want to here them speak I watch C-SPAN. There's not much useful discussion in GD2004. The lounge is way cooler. I sometimes venture in there but try not to get involved.

I've had too many comments taken the wrong way, and too many times when I felt attacked.
So I just say what I want to say and leave. What a chickenshit I am!

I rarely go to the gd2004 board, but am pleasantly surprised by the gd board. It's much better without all the primary stuff in there, and the flaimwars, etc. I find that the discussions are worth reading, so I do read them regularly.

11. Yes. I go in quickly, make my comment, then head for the Lounge |
|
Then maybe I'll go back later to see if there's any response to my post. Usually I can tell by the thread's title that it's going to be nasty, and I just avoid the thread.
