I remember when I was a teenager in the 70's, we used to wear nasty old ripped jeans. The reason for that was because our older siblings had had dress codes in school (my oldest brother had to wear slacks and a button-down shirt and my sisters had to wear dresses). By the time my age group got in high school, they'd abolished the dress code and our response was to wear the rattiest clothes we owned.

Then in the late 80's I think it was, someone got the brilliant idea to sell pre-ripped blue jeans. :wtf: The whole point of the ripped jeans was that you'd worn them to oblivion.

And why would anyone be proud to have beat-up furniture? I guess I'm just not on the cutting edge... :(
