2. That whole shabby chic line of interior decor
New furniture scraped up to look old. :puke:

It's horrible looking.

4. I think it started out legitmately.
The stuff wasn't manufactured that way, it came that way by being used over the years.

5. Another one of those stupid ideas
I remember when I was a teenager in the 70's, we used to wear nasty old ripped jeans. The reason for that was because our older siblings had had dress codes in school (my oldest brother had to wear slacks and a button-down shirt and my sisters had to wear dresses). By the time my age group got in high school, they'd abolished the dress code and our response was to wear the rattiest clothes we owned.

Then in the late 80's I think it was, someone got the brilliant idea to sell pre-ripped blue jeans. :wtf: The whole point of the ripped jeans was that you'd worn them to oblivion.

And why would anyone be proud to have beat-up furniture? I guess I'm just not on the cutting edge... :(

10. Hear, hear!
I like antiques, but shabby chic is just... ugh - old and ugly.

11. Even worse is the brand new stuff all scuffed up to look old.
:wtf:

Antiques are beautiful in their own right, but that stuff is hideous.

12. Well, that's part of the movement, isn't it?
The whole concept of "distressing" perfectly good furniture is stupid IMHO. I think we are in COMPLETE AGREEMENT, Midlo. Ain't it sweet? :hi:
