Has anyone ever been to the movies alone? |
|
I went to see two movies tonight and I felt kind of odd but I enjoyed both movies.
Bad Santa was funny and Cold River was a sad movie. I think that I liked Bad Santa better because It made me laugh but I felt kind of out of place laughing on my own.

I still go alone sometimes- I'm on disability, and have the ability to go during the day during the week, when it's a lot less crowded.

If I can't convince the wife or a friend to go, I have no problem with going alone. In some ways it actually makes the movie better. Nobody trying to talk to you, no argument on where to sit, no haggling over which movie to see. :D
Now everyone I know has either already seen ROTK or won't go. (the wife complains about the sheer length of it)... But I'm certainly not waiting for it to come out on DVD. Some movies need the big screen treatment!

4. Yep and I learned that I enjoy it |
|
Was one of those hard first time since the divorce things. Felt very odd and sad about it at first but found out I rather enjoyed it. my brother has been going to movies alone for decades. He is a real movie buff and usually likes to see a flim alone before taking someone with him. He really absorbs it better when not worried about a companion. (OK, sometimes he sneaks in his little tiny dog by putting him inside his bomber jacket...gets odd looks when dropping popcorn inside his jacket..)

I actually prefer it at times. That way, I can see what I want to see. Although, I do enjoy going with my sister on occasion 'cause we have similar tastes in movies ...

6. Once that I can recall |
|
I went to see David Lynch's "Wild At Heart" during the day when I should have been in class. It was okay, but not as good as "Blue Velvet." My favorite line was "It's hotter than Georgia asphalt." But I ended up sitting next to the only other person in the theater, a cute girl. Like a dumbass, I didn't even get her number. Damn, I can be stupid sometimes. :(

When I was in my twenties I often missed seeing movies I really wanted to see because I wouldn't go alone. I eventually realized that was stupid. Why deprive myself of seeing something for such a dumb reason?
Maybe it's very much a factor of age. I'm 55 now and while I do enjoy discussing a movie right afterwords, it's not tragic if I can't do that.
My advice is GO ALONE! Don't miss seeing something for such a silly reason.

It was cheaper also because I didn't have to pay for two people and listen to someone else bitch about not liking the movie and wanting to leave.

and I'm a "married lady." Prefer to see films alone most of the time, 'cuz I can sit where I want (5th or 6th row, center), and it's pretty much a given that no one will be trying to talk to me when what I really wanna do is watch the damn movie. :D
Occasionally I'll see stuff with the hubby or friends, but those times usually aren't the best viewing experiences. The dear husband got me a buncha movie tix to my favorite local art house as part of my Xmas gift. Gotta love him!

All the screens turn away single people. Their money is no good. Its religion ,you understand. Zero tolerance,We just can't do it. Go bowl alone.

I love to bowl but I can't find any bowlers in my area.
They didn't turn me away this time because I bought two tickets and used one of them for a different movie. Don't tell anyone at the theaters or they may catch on.

15. Wife and I swap turns and go alone |
|
When the mood hits us. Then, we hire a sitter a couple times a month and go together sometimes, but it seems to me that movie watching is primarily a solitary experience. So, when we have a sitter, we go out to dinner, go to a bar, go for a drive, things we can do and talk while we do it.

18. Keep in mind the people sitting |
|
in the three or four rows in front of you can hear you when you speak unless you whisper directly into each other's ear.
I know because I can always hear the people behind me, no matter how loud the movie is. Those in back of you won't hear a thing. So sit far enough up front that no one is in front of you and it's not so bad, but it's still phenomenally rude to talk during a film. Got that?

20. i go alone fairly often |
|
my husband isn't much of a movie goer -- I can occasionally drag him to something, but most movies I want to see he has no interest in. So I go by myself. When the lights go down, who cares?
BTW, I often see other people at the movies by themselves, too.

I don't go too often, but if I want to do something, I do it. I don't look for someone to go along. If it is something we are both interested in, I go with my oldest son. He is a big fan of "films." He'll even come pick me up and drive me there. If he isn't interested, I take myself.

I love going to the movies, and if I can't find a friend to go with, I'll hit the screens on my own, no problem. I'm going to try to see "Stuck on You" and "Bad Santa" this week myself.
Going alone is especialy satisfying when it's a real tearjerker -- you can sit in the dark, and have a (semi) private sob-fest with no shame. :)

When I was about 12-years old, they were showing "Gone With The Wind" as a matinee at a local theater. Having read the book, I really wanted to see the movie. I couldn't find anyone that wanted to got with me, but I managed to convince my father that I could go by myself.
I just loved it!
