So, I went and saw a bankruptcy attorney today. |
|
I'm sick and tired of being hounded by creditors who act as if I am sitting on a million bucks, and refuse to turn any money over to them. (Yeah, I know, that's what they do...)
Anyway, they need a bit for info from me to determine if I can file Chapter 7 or Chapter 13, but since I paid them something, I can now tell the creditors to stop bothering me and to contact my attorney if they have questions.
I feel as if a 10-ton load has been lifted from me.

Thanks. It does feel good to have a legal person on my side to help combat the legal eagles on the other side.

It is scary enough already that you HAVE to file for bankruptcy. No reason to fight the fight alone
I wish you the best gf

4. Thanks, darlin' Peggy! |

I'm hoping for Chapter 7, but even Chapter 13 would be a relief from the endless hounding I've been subjected to. I've been lied to, talked down to, told I was a liar, told that I was just "choosing" not to pay my debts. BS. In May, I brought home a whoppin' total of $1025. Yeah, I'm sitting on a ton o' bucks!

I filed student loans under a base 13 so I paid them back over a period of three years but once you go under the advisement of a bankruptcy lawyer the creditors can't harass you and it is wonderful. I hope you get base 7 but even if you don't it is a tremendous relief just not to have to deal with those nasty minions of the devil. If you do get base 13 make sure they calculate your interest for the pay back period right, they didn't do mine and even after mine was discharged they came after me for the interest, but I didn't find out about it til after my credit was ruined again...it was a bad experience...probably just a road sign but at the time it felt like a sucker punch because I'd gone two years without knowing what was going on. :(
Congrats on your moving forward, it only gets better from here.

8. Ah, those student loans. |
|
I had defaulted on mine in the past, but paid them off in 2 years. That was a relief.
This firm I retained specializes in bankruptcy (both 7 and 13), but thanks for sharing your story. If I end up having to go 13, I'll make sure I ask about the interest issue.

Even though I have to pay a set amount per month to the courts, I am relieved that finally I will someday be debt free.

MrSG filed a Chapter 13 before we were married, and he felt so good when he filed, and again when everything was paid off.

My credit card debt is larger than some nations' GDP, and it's not as though we spent it on frivolous shit.
I'd love to take advantage of some kind of debt counsellor, but I'm terrified of getting screwed over. And over and over...

You can fill out an online form or call direct. If you are accepted, hell, I was with 3 maxed out card ranging from 28% to 31% interest, they contact the banks and they set up a payout plan, making it as fair as possible and closing your cards. You send the money to TakeCharge and they send it to them. They get $37 a month fee outta me.
In a few months your credit score will start going up, and once your paid, your done.

That would be like buying back my soul from Satan, except that Satan is a cheerful, avuncular figure compared to Chase and Citibank.
Thanks for the tip--I'll definitely look into it!
