How much is too much beer?

I am not sure whether I have a situation I should be concerned about or not. My husband has gradually worked his way up to drinking 4-6 beers a night maybe 3-5 nights a week. Some nights he doesn't drink anything. But about every other night during the week and most weekends he drinks beer. He says he likes it and some days it helps him unwind after work. He never seems drunk or anything. My problem is that my father was a raging alcoholic (he was a liquor drinker, but isn't it all alcohol?) who abused us under the influence and I don't drink at all. With that combination, I tend to take a dim view of drinking at all. I have been with my husband for nearly 24 years, BTW. He has always had the occasional beer, but over the past few years it has crept up to the level it is at now. For the last few months it has bugged me. I said something about it awhile back, but I don't think I handled it well because he got REALLY pissed.

Anyway...am I overreacting? When DO I get worried? The beer he drinks does not seem to effect his work or really even his behavior much. Mostly I notice him being a little extra crabby the day after he has had a lot to drink...that's about it.
