3. 'Dear King Haakon
Just a line to thank you for the eels. Mary thought they were really scrummy, comma, so did I, full stop. I've just heard that Algy was a poof, exclamation mark. What would Captain W. E. Johns have said, question mark. Sorry to mensch, but if you've finished with the lawn-edger, could you pop it in the post? Love, Biggles, Algy (deceased) and Ginger. Ginger!"

"What?"

"Rhyming slang — ginger beer!"

"Oh."

(into the intercom) "Ginger!"

"Hello, sweetie."

"I have to see you!"

(Ginger enters) "Yes, Biggles?"

"Are you a poof?"

(camp outrage) "I should say not!"

"Thank God for that! Good lad! Stout fellow! Salt of the earth! Backbone of England! Funny, he looks like a poof."

4. LOL! GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!
Actually, I think this sketch is like another one about the bigotry game show host.
I forgot the name of the sketch, where Michael Palin plays a game show host who uses all these racial slurs. There is contest to find a slur against Belgians and the winner is "Fat Belgium Bastards."
After that is a segment in the same show called "Shoot the Poof."
These are actually pro-gay sketches because they make a mockery of gay-bashing. Gay-bashing is basically as stupid as any other kind of hatred. That and the fact that Graham Chapman was indeed an openly gay wonderful man who is now in Heaven...
:(

5. Yeah, that bit was called 'Prejudice'
(Episode 37, the one with "Dennis Moore.")

It did a great job of making fun of all bigotry.

Well, now, the result of last week's competition when we asked you to find a derogatory term for the Belgians — well, the response was enormous and we took quite a long time sorting out the winners. There were some very clever entries. Mrs. Hatred of Leicester said, "Let's not call them anything, let's just ignore them." And a Mr. St John of Huntingdon said he couldn't think of anything more derogatory than "Belgians." But in the end, we settled on three choices: number three, "the Sprouts," sent in by Mrs Vicious of Hastings. Very nice. Number two, "the Phlegms," from Mrs Childmolester of Worthing. But the winner was undoubtedly from Mrs No-Supper-For-You from Norwood in Lancashire — "Miserable Fat Belgian Bastards."

6. Thank you!
THE PHELGMS should have won it.

Also the poof gets shot by a poofy bandit in a pink mask who minces, "OOH, I just hate that sort of person." Dennis Moores shoots the poofy bandit. A great comment on gay homophobes out there.

7. I love the way the poofy bandit dies, too
Throws out his arms and legs and falls backwards. Just like Mrs. B.J. Smegma in "How Not to Be Seen." :D

I've kind of wondered about the Pythons' writing process with bits like that. They wrote separately — Chapman and Cleese, Jones and Palin, and Idle on his own — then met to kick around what they'd written, add to it, etc. I've wondered if Chapman acted as a sort of arbiter to keep it "in bounds."

Then there was "Spot the Looney."

9. Sir Walter Scott
Dog, that one breaks me up.

I think the best thing they ever did, though, was "The Piranha Brothers."

10. That's not me. Sounds more like Dickens.
Charles Dickens: You bastard!

Spiny Norman: Dinsdale.
