Am I the luckiest SOB there is, or what? Here's my Father's Day dinner menu: |
|
-Rib-eye steaks, coming out of 24 hours of a custom balsamic-vinegar, olive oil, and fresh-herb marinade and hitting the grill in about 15 minutes.
-White-and yellow corn on the cob, with basil and tarragon butter.
-Garlic bread with SIX (count 'em) kinds of cheese on top. (Parma-Reggiano, aged cheddar, smoked cheddar, Monterey Jack, Pecorino Romano, and Asiago.)
-Coleslaw
-Caesar salad dusted with Balinese long pepper (cubeb).
Oh, yes. That happy ggroaning sound you'll be hearing later will be me.
Happy Dad's Day, all you DU fathers.

4. Right now, because it's almost ready and there's plenty to go around. |
|
I think we're going to call the neighbors over; I like leftovers but this stuff is too good not to finish tonight.

7. Peg, I gotta tell you, it was even better than I expected. Steak so tender you could slice it |
|
just by looking at it, almost. Perfectly crunchy/soft garlic/cheese bread. It took every bit of willpower that I could summon to refrain from having seconds...you don't want to ruin a great meal like that by sutffing yourself.
Besides, this way I'll be able to have a nice steak sandwich with local greenhouse tomatoes for lunch tomorrow.
I hope that Mr Peg had a good Father's day as well. I'm confident that you made sure he did.

Me? This is the first fathers day I've ever celebrated in my life and I must say, it's great to finally have a good one.
PS: I am extremely jealous of your dinner. I think we're having salad. I like salad, but ....

17. Mrs R and I worked on it together. However, unlike in most families, SHE does the grilling. |
|
Edited on Sun Jun-17-07 07:06 PM by Redstone
She has a magic touch with cooking in general, and grilling in particular, having grown up cooking over an open fire and/or a wood-fired stove.
We're a good team; I do recipes and prep, and she does cooking and presentation. We've always eaten well, even when we were dirt-poor. If all you can afford is beans and rice, at least you can have tasty beans and rice, yes? We did lots of that.

23. Thanks, lost. It was damn tasty. The only problem was refraining from piggishness, |
|
but that was tempered by thoughts of how good the leftovers will be for lunch tomorrow.
Hope all's been good for you lately.
