Name a popular song that is either the best or the worst you've ever heard |
|
And see if we can guess whether you like it or not. :)

No way! I cannot stand that song. It flies in the face of anything remotely resembling decent writing. In fact, I think I seriously offended a younger cousin of mine who was playing it last year. I said to my uncle as she turned it up: "This is the worst written song ever made." And she heard it and said: "Are you just teasing me?" So I said: "Nope, just listen to how stupid the lyrics are." I swear you would have thought I strangled her first born. She looked mortally wounded. But still, it's horrible. I mean the state of songwriting is just godawful.

First, I was teasing! Second, if you judge the lyrics in a dance song, you will always be disappointed. I think the song is moderately clever. Much better than anything REO Speedwagon or Steely Dan ever did! But it's a pop dance song, it's not Shakespeare. It's kind of fun.

I have yet to see a music thread about hating songs or music where a DUer does not express and intense hatred for Nickelback. :)

I hate it because in my opinion, it's crap. When I read the question, it was the FIRST thing that popped into my head.

X! Sorry, I hate the song. It's not THE worst song I've ever heard, it's actually the third-worst - but I listed the top two in another thread ( http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=6622880&mesg_id=6625886) and didn't want to make it easy on you. BTW, my username is that of the worst of the bad guys in a Russian movie called Night Watch.

Judging by the razorback in your profile, I'd say hate. If it were a longhorn, you'd probably love it. Valens is a Texan-y kind of thing.

I hate it because it's hackneyed into every commercial under the sun:
to the tune of La Bamba: "You could be driving a Honda, o yes you could, driving a Russell Honda..."

29. It was a cute song. Typical example of |
|
a song that got way more popular than it's quality level deserved, and got a backlash of hatred because of it. Darned song made and ruined Billy Ray Cyrus's career in one fell swoop.

He does have some solid songs on his first two albums. Just pretty much overshadowed by Achy Breaky Heart, but he does have some decent work. :)

28. Well, you tipped your hand, but just to inform you |
|
that "no-talent hack" is currently an actor on a Disney Channel show called "Hannah Montana," in which his daughter (on the show, and in real life) is a pop star.
Billy Ray Cyrus. Daughter's name is Miley. Also co-stars Emily Osment, sister to Haley Joel Osment.
Just to catch you up to speed. :)

I will agree that my use of the term "no-talent hack" was excessive and harsh. Glad to hear that he has gone on to do better things with his career, and it sounds like Miley has a promising career ahead of her as well.
But that one song totally grated on my nerves. It really, really did!!! :puke:

33. Hmm, I was going to say "worst," but I've never heard anyone say |

Aguilera was worst. Then again, even though I like Gwen, and liked 50 Cent's early work, I couldn't see anyone calling them the best... Help me out here. Does Christina Aguilera have a cousin in the business with the same first initial? That's like running into Rick Astley, Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, and Elvis Presley on the same list. One of them just isn't close to the others.
