9. Marine corps 82-86.

0481 but worked in the s-3 (operations) of the 2nd tank battalion. It was mostly doing map reproduction, doing go-fer work. It wasn't a bad job, I never had to do any extra duty such as guard or messhall. I never had to go on a "float", I only went when the whole battalion was training togeather. Never had to hump a pack, always rode in the back of the command track. Yes, I was a pouge but a very happy pouge. Never wanted to do the "grunt" stuff.

When no one answers, he threatens to "... P.T. you all until you fu!king die! I'll P.T. you until your a$$holes are sucking buttermilk."

Retired Navy here. We live about 60 miles northwest of Keesler. Has the exchange reopened? I was stationed in New Orleans back in the 90's and we'd take our bad boys to the correctional facility at Keesler. They did a very fine job. Got some of my retirement medical workup at Keesler. Glad its where it is.

On 1 March a temporary BX opened, and on 6 July a food court is opening across the parking lot. When you come in the main gate make an immediate left, and it will be on your right side before getting to the shoppette. The food court used to be the pecan dining hall. It will have Anthony's Pizza, Charley's subs, Seattle's Best Coffee, and a couple of other things in there.

In 2 weeks the Hard Rock cafe/casino/hotel/whatever will open. My new neighbor got hired as a dealer there, and currently going through orientation.

After I came home the National Guard offered me more money for college (all I had was VEAP) so I ended up serving another nine years.

Remember the old recruiting slogan for the Navy: "Join the Navy and see the world"? Well, I discovered that the Marines went with them. I went to sea four times: NATO deployment 1978, Caribbean deployment 1979, West Pac 1980, then once more around the West Pac but this time it was a "Love Boat" cruise training Navy ROTC midshipmen aboard the USS Dubuque (now that was easy duty!).

It is an odd coincidence to me that this thread appears today as I have been thinking about Parris Island: Thirty years ago from this very moment was my second day on the island.

My husband's battery was quite a ways on base -- French Creek, I believe.

They were some tough times, but I have good memories and wouldn't trade it for anything. I would love to go visit and see what it looks like now.
