AAAARRRRRRRR RRRRRRR HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! %$#!@*&%$!#@!!!!
Edited on Mon Jun-25-07 07:25 PM by Ava
I'm so mad right now I could spit nails! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

So i'm writing up a loooong essay for school - a writing final paper of sorts. I've got nine pages written and suddently the power goes out, the power ONLY in my room goes out. I had saved the essay two pages before so I have seven pages saved but I have spent the last three hours working on this only to lose part of it! I am sooooooooo freaking mad right now. I'm having to take a break for writing or else the second half of the paper would be an extremely angry angry essay, lol.

1. Doesn't your word processor automatically save every now and again?
Edited on Mon Jun-25-07 07:30 PM by Rabrrrrrr
Even if you never changed the default setting, it should be autosaving and making backups at least every hour, probably sooner.

I set all mine to autosave and make backups every two minutes. Plus, pretty much any time I stop typing to pause or think or anything, I hit ctrl-s.

I learned the hard way, way back in the day before Microsoft, to safeguard my work. Among the many things I lost to power outages, system failures, or computer lockup, I lost about 20-25 pages of my senior thesis one night after going six or seven hours without a save and then locking up the computer...

Bummers to you - I know the feeling.

Copies of The Turner Diaries, issues of The Washington Times, videotapes of Jerry Falwell blaming secular humanists and lesbians for 9/11 - you get the idea.

20. Uninterruptible Power Supply
Edited on Mon Jun-25-07 07:41 PM by Xipe Totec
Sorry, I thought you were a geek like me.

I've lost power so many times, I got me one. Now if I have a power loss, I have 30 minutes to finish what I'm working on and shut down gracefully.

You can get one for about $100 bucks or less...

:hi:

24. I save files almost as often as I breathe
About every 10-15 seconds. This comes from the bad old days of working in Quark XPress on a Windows 3.11 machine. (It crashed frequently, and I've never gotten over the habit of hitting control-S every few seconds.)

Sorry you lost your work. Save often.

Repeat those words ad nauseum.

Now follow own advice.

37. quite a few people on this thread have said that
and it's frustrating to hear because i'm not a ditz, i know that i should save my work. that advice really isn't much advice at all, lol. now the UPS thing is something i definitely should look into! whenever you get in the zone though and start writing sometimes you never stop to think to save because you are sidetracked with the writing.

*sigh*
