Not seeking Medical Advice....does anyone have |
|
experience with "swimmer's ear" and do those OTC drops work? Little MB is complaining of an earache and before I rush her little fishy self to the dr, I wanted to give them a try....

2. There used to be a product called "Swimmer's Ear" |
|
I had a HORRIBLE case back in the 70s when I was at summer camp, in and out of the pool all day.
A couple of these drops a few times a week, and mine cleared right up. I would suspect that even if they don't make that particular product that something similar would be of equivalent effectiveness.
I think the doctor even said something back then about swabbing the inner ear with alcohol (since it's caused by bacteria). But you definitely want to check that last part out with a professional.
Good luck! Swimmers ear hurts like the dickens!

3. Tap the cartilage of her ear that is next to her cheek. |
|
If it hurts, it is OE, or swimmer's ear.
Those drops do work, but plain alcohol works as well.
Feel better little MB!

4. not to be substituted for medical advice but |
|
two things, have her pinch her nose shut and then blowing as if she was blowing her nose. That technique is good for clearing blocked ear tubes. She should be able to feel a bit of a pop in her ears, that's totally normal. Another home remedy is to instill a few drops of plain white household vinegar into the ear. That's particularly helpful more for itching than plugging, however.
If there's any discharge, especially if it's pink or bloody, see a doctor ASAP.

5. My son had it. We tried the OTC, but it got worse. |
|
swimmers ear can be a bacterial infection, so said the doc, when I took him in. That`s what my son`s infection turned out to be.

6. Doc tomorrow if not better. The drops only work |
|
if you use them immediately after you swim (they help dry 'em out --alcohol, maybe?) or you can blowdry her ears after swimming (on low, lol) which helps.
Those only work BEFORE you get swimmers ear, though. If it gets worse/stays the same, call the Doc.
