Back from the belly of the beast (DC anti-choice rally) |
|
I work at 15th and Constitution downtown DC and I just came back in from smoking a cigarette ... It's gotten pretty thick outside. There seems to be more cops this year. No real judgment on how big the crowd is yet, they haven't started to march.
I did get a look at what I think to be Fred Phelps and his lot.
Lot's of signs. Tons of busses.
My question is how can parents subject their children to the images these folks carry around on their signs? Of course it's ugly. The remains of most any medical procedure are, how does this prove a point?
Anyone else in DC today have any updates on the action?

Although Mrs. V. and I discussed the protests' effect on d-town traffic today, I completely forgot aobut this.
I wish I'd brought my camera.
But no, sorry -- no updates.

2. Would that be "Fred Phelps, Male Prostitute"? |
|
or, would I have him and Dan Ackroyd confused with another Fred Phelps of some repute?

Why these parents, if they are bringing kids, have decided that coming to Washington for a pro-life rally is more important than their education. Yeah, I realize some might be home-schooled and all, but even then, this just seems like horrendous parenting.

some of them appeared to be school groups.
Saw a group (out for another smoke) of nuns and students walking with signs for their school and the kids in matching school sweatshirts.
Saw a lot of bored kids with their parents.
Overheard two girls talking about getting piercings too. Very strange! One of them finaly says something along the lines of "And she told me it hurts! So I decided not to do it". No shit sticking a F***king needle through your tougue hurts! Why are they so stupid that they have to be told that getting a piercing hurts? I thought that was part of the point.
Another smoke break in an hour or so, I'll fill in what else I see.
Anyone else in DC today?

I really hope those are private schools - if they are public, someone needs to raise some serious hell about a school overtly supporting a political (and, let's face it, religious) event.

10. public schools with nuns? |
|
Yeah, they were private schools, St Whomever and the like ...
Their right I suppose. I probably wouldn't mind my kid going to a demonstration durring school. Hell, most of my demonstrating was when I was supposed to be in school.
