His mother is Mexican and he was raised in East LA by his aunt and uncle who I assume to be his maternal relatives.

So he's not a fraud...and I mean really, Carlos is a just a stage name...Ned Arnel was given her maiden name of Mencia by his mother at the time of his birth.

My Spanish teacher in college, who was from Majorca, said that over there they take their mother's name and it was really hard for her to get used to going by her husbands name...she even kind of denounced it in class, saying that she didn't consider her real name to be "Ashbrook". I'm not a Mencia fan but it's interesting there is more gray than black and white in the facts of this.

As I've said here before, if you are not from the West Coast, you won't find him nearly as funny. That's why I'm amazed he got a national show. So he steals jokes? Perhaps. He's still funny, no less so than Dave Chappell.

20. Stealing jokes isn't just a "no big deal" sort of thing, though...

as a writer, I'd be pretty livid if someone plagiarized my work.

Or what if a band ripped off lyrics or music from another band? Heck, you can even sue in these examples. I haven't heard of comedians being able to do that, but it's certainly in the same ballpark.
