1. Worst ever: This Ain't No Rag, It's a Flag. Charlie Daniels.
:puke:

Lyrics:

This ain't no rag it's a flag
And we don't wear it on our heads
It's a symbol of the land where the good guys live
Are you listening to what I said
You're a coward and a fool
And you broke all of the rules
And you wounded our American pride

And now we're coming with a gun
And we know you're gonna run
But you can't find no place to hide
We're gonna hunt you down like a mad dog hound
Make you pay for the live you stole
We're all through talking and a messing around
And now it's time to rock and roll

These colors don't run and we're speaking as one
When we say united we stand
When you mess with one, you mess with us all
Every boy, girl, woman and man
You've been acting mighty rash
And talking that trash
Let me give you some advice
You can crawl back in your hole
Like a dirty little mole

But now you're gonna pay the price
You might of shot us in the back
Now you have to face the fact
That the big boys' in the game
And the lighening's been flashing
And the thunder's been crashing
And now it's getting ready to rain

Chorus:
This is the United States of America
The land of the brave and the free
We believe in God and we believe in justice
We believe in liberty
You've been pulling our chain
We should've done something 'bout you a long time ago
But now the flag's flying high and the fur's gonna fly
And soon the whole world's gonna know

This ain't no rag, it's a flag
Old Glory red, white and blue
The stars and the stripes when it comes to a fight
We can do what we have to do
Our people stand proud
The American crowd is faithful, loyal and tough
We're good as the best and better than the rest
And you're gonna find out soon enough
When you look up in the sky
And you see the eagle fly
You better know he's a heading your way
Cause this ain't no rag it's a flag
And it stands for the USA
USA
USA
USA

Repeat Chorus

4. Someone needs to sing that song to the guys that leave their flags
out in the effing rain, displayed on overpasses til they turn to shreds, and tied to their car radio antennas so they get smeared with bug guts and bird shit.

I'd rather see the flag burned than treated like that.

6. I agree.
At the FD, I am the caretaker of our flag. When I first went on, there was no flag hanging on the huge flag pole outside the station. I went over to the hardware store, and bought an all-weather flag, and we got a MS flag donated--we got a spotlight installed so that it's illuminated at night.

I have the US flag and the MS flag that we flew through Katrina. They are wind-ripped, tattered and torn. I have folded them and put them up, to kind of be keepsakes of that terrible day.

That "song" is a whole lot of copycat jingoism in a slimy shit sac.

It's so bad, were Billy Joel to hear it, he'd forgo the lawsuit on grounds that giving a horrible right-wing bar band publicity is a disturbing-enough notion.

7. I think you're right
They're all real bad, but most of the songs on that list have some sort of structure to them. Let the Eagle Soar just kinda jumps around, like he just threw a bunch of patriotic-sounding phrases on a sheet of paper then read them in his singing voice.

Ashcroft's actually got a nice voice. It's just too bad his songwriting skills are so wretched.

...remember the ad from the clothing line that cut up CCR's "Fortunate Son" so that it sounded like a patriotic anthem?

All you had was "Some folks are born/Made to wave the flag/Ooo, the Red, White, and Blue" followed by the final chord.

I'd have to think John Fogerty threw a fit over that one...

that POS is often included. Excellent way to ruin an otherwise fun event.

As crappy as the whole song is, the worst lyric is "And I'm proud to be an American...Where at least I know I'm free." Is that as opposed to being French or English or Canadian or even Cuban where the "least" a person is entitled to is health care?

I hate that song.

17. "Fightin' Side of Me" - Merle Haggard (written in 1970... still as shitty today)
I hear people talkin' bad,
About the way we have to live here in this country,
Harpin' on the wars we fight,
An' gripin' 'bout the way things oughta be.
An' I don't mind 'em switchin' sides,
An' standin' up for things they believe in.
When they're runnin' down my country, man,
They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.

Yeah, walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
Runnin' down the way of life,
Our fightin' men have fought and died to keep.
If you don't love it, leave it:
Let this song I'm singin' be a warnin'.
If you're runnin' down my country, man,
You're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.

I read about some squirrely guy,
Who claims, he just don't believe in fightin'.
An' I wonder just how long,
The rest of us can count on bein' free.
They love our milk an' honey,
But they preach about some other way of livin'.
When they're runnin' down my country, hoss,
They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.

22. Sometime between now and then, Merle must of had a moment of clarity
Check out his song America First

lyrics

Why don't we liberate these United States
We're the ones who need it the worst
Let the rest of the world help us for a change
And let's rebuild America first

Our highways and bridges are falling apart
Who's blessed and who has been cursed
There's things to be done all over the world
But let's rebuild America first

Who's on the hill and who's watching the valley
Who's in charge of it all
God bless the Army and God bless our liberty
Dadgum the rest of it all

Yeah, men in position but backing away
Freedom is stuck in reverse
Let's get out of Iraq and get back on the track
And let's rebuild America first

Why don't we liberate these United States
We're the ones who need it the most
You think I'm blowing smoke
Boys it ain't no joke
I make twenty trips a year from coast to coast

23. Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer
It takes a special imagination to combine violence against women with Christmas. Normal people don't have it, but right wingers do. The song actually celebrates Grandma's death.

"Grandma got run over by a reindeer, walking home from our house Christmas eve. You can say there's no such thing as Santa, but as for me and Grandpa, we believe."

25. Man, I've got you all beat...
Try out the lyrics to RAHOWA by the white-power rock band of the same name:

As I march into battle, my comrades i hail,
Tonight the white race prevails -
Death by our swords to the vile, alien hordes,
Their every resistance shall fail.
They see it, it's there in our eyes,
We know it, it's time that we rise,
Not one of their numbers shall be spared;
The racial holy war has been declared . . .

By the blood of our fathers, by the seed of our sons,
By the blades of our knives, and by the bullets in our guns,
By the fire burning deep inside, the ancestral claim to land,
We shall fight the good fight 'til the end - down to the final man!

Well, i'm a heretic amongst you, a rebel on the run;
You locked me in the darkness, but i've burst into the sun -
Oh yeah, oh yeah! you'll never crush my spirit,
You'll never break my will, i keep coming on back for more -
In the racial holy war!

Rahowa!
It's our battle cry, you're trembling in fear
'cause of this look in my eyes, rahowa!
It's the white man's call,
You can chase me to the end of the earth,
But I shall never fall, never fall,
You can chase me to the end of the earth,
But I shall never fall!

Our race is our religion, it's our reason and our creed;
No cowards linger in our ranks, no weaklings make us bleed.
Smashing unpure idols, that enslave the white man's mind,
Rid the world of the nazarene - pathetic christ not of our kind!

As I march out of battle, my comrades i hail,
Tonight the white race prevailed;
We brought death by our swords to the vile,
alien hordes, their every resistance has failed.
Now our future is secure, our sacred blood kept pure,
And by the splendor of the rising sun,
The racial holy war has been won.

They've done worse, but I figured that you wouldn't be interested.

At least that's what Bo Donaldson said. She got a letter that told how Billy died that day and how he was a hero. She didn't see it that way. Bo heard she threw the letter away.

That song is no way from the Right. It wasn't a particularly good song from the Left, either, but it was an anti-war anthem for the bubblegum-pop generation.

31. Here's my analysis.
Edited on Sat Jul-21-07 02:00 PM by Deep13
One for English. No comment.

Eagle Soar: I didn't watch it. It is not just a bad song, but Ashcroft makes it painful to watch. I could not put my ears through that again. He's the K-Fed of patriotic horseshit.

Stand as One: Took way-y-y-y too long to download, so BZZZT, they lose.

Have You Forgotten? gets my vote as the worst of the bunch. It is not only wrong factually, but the thick sentimentality is a effort to manipulate and deceive the audience about the reasons for the wars. It's deceptiveness is why it is at the top (or bottom) of my list.

Couresty Red, White and blue. There's really nothing factual in this song. It just describes an angry reaction to the Sept. 11 bombings. Consequently, I can't really say he is wrong. Jingoistic to be sure and generally unpleasant, but not deceptive unless it is intended to shore up support for the Iraq invasion. Word on the street is that Tobey Keith himself is a Democrat.

I can't even hear the name Lee Greenwood without puking...uhg!...oh shit!....

...Jesus Christ, dry heaves are the fucking worst. Anyway, I did not listen.

Well the Right Brothers are about as wrong as they can be. For that reason they are my second choice. I think the song is a bit catchy. Too bad they ripped off the idea from Billy Joel. Oh and guys, France is not wondering how to extract themselves from an unwinnable war in Iraq.

I live in East Tennessee, where Lee Greenwood used to have a music theater (in Pigeon Forge). His ad for it was on TV every single time I turned it on, it seemed, and the ad featured that song, of course.

46. I have to vote for "Have You Forgotten", because it really pisses me off.
No. I haven't forgotten 9/11, it's got nothing to do with this horrible war in Iraq, and who the fuck are you to think you're so superior that people who don't agree with you have "forgotten"?

Fuck off, Worley.

50. oh yeah
I just want to say: "Hey dumbfuck, I haven't forgotten that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11." That's a real bullshitting eye roller of a song. It's good to get some press and tap into a resource to revive a stale career though.

54. Here's one from the Viet Nam War era
It was a spoken word recording.

Ballad Of Two Brothers
by Autry Inman

Somewhere in Vietnam, September first
Dear, Mom and Dad
We must've marched twenty miles today
Through the rain and the mud

And believe it or not
This is the first opportunity
I've had to sit down and
Write in two or three weeks

This'll have to be short
But I just wanted to send my love
And let you know that I'm doing fine

But you know, just being here
And seeing how close these people
Are to losing their freedom
Makes me that much more determined
To help win this war

'Cause if we don't, the next battlefield
May be closer to home than Vietnam
Must close for now, all my love
Your son, Bud

P.S., how's Tommy doing
At State University
Tell him his big brother said hello

State University, September first
Hi, Dad, we must have
Marched twenty blocks today
And, baby, I'm beat

I mean, like the sign
I was carrying got real heavy
But, Dad, everything was out of sight

There were recorders and
Photographers and cameraman
From every major news
Service and network in the nation
Thank you for using Top40db.com.
So look for your baby boy's picture
On the front page of today's paper

Of course, you might have a
Little trouble recognizing me
With my groovy beard
But, Dad, I know we're right

How can you defend my brother
Murdering all those people overseas
So what if the Communists
Do take over in South Vietnam

Why, just today
Our economics professor assured us
That people get along
Just as well under communism
As they do under
Any other form of government

I'm sorry, Dad
But this God and country bit
Just isn't my bag
Gotta go, dad, big rally tonight
Your son, Tommy

P.S., Dad better send me an
Extra fifty bucks this week, dig

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Smith
I know you must be awfully
Proud of your fine son
I wish I could be there to
See you recieve Bud's medal of honor

It may comfort you to know
That his last thoughts were of you
And as his sergeant
I can truthfully say
He was one of the bravest men
I have ever known

Dear Mom and Dad
It's been some time
Since I received word about Bud
Somehow I just didn't have
The nerve to come home

But I've done a lot of thinking since then
About my turned on friends and
About what they said about communism
We were all wrong

And you know, I always just worship Bud
Now that I've thought it over, I know
That he would never fight for something
Unless he believed in it
With all of his heart

And in spite of all my past mistakes
I hope that somehow, someday
I can become as big in your eyes
As my brother will always be
Your son, Private Tommy Smith
