STATIC-Anyone else experiencing a lot of static? |
|
I am getting shocked everyday and more than once. Touching the refridgerator or the phone is an experience in apprehension.
My wife and I both get shocked (sometimes REALLY shocked) at least once a day when we kiss.
Anyone else having this problem? I vacuum at least weekly but I don't know if that is really a solution.

1. It's dry outside, for the most part. |
|
Low humidity leads to more static electricity.

2. Humidity is the only cure. |
|
Whole-house humidifiers have mixed reviews, but at least a standalone unit in the "shockingest" room would help.

10. Or, you could get a copper nail |
|
and drive it through the heel of your shoe (inside to out, NOT outside to in) so you're grounded when you walk. Well...you COULD. ;-)

19. Well, if you were in Hawaii... |
|
...I wouldn't think it was very cool & dry weather causing the unusually intense static you and your coworkers are experiencing.
But in Richmond, yeah, it's probably the weather we've been having lately. take the advice given above.

Depending on your location, it may be the cold, dry weather exacerbating the problem. A humidifier will help neutralizr the static.

8. I'm afraid to touch any metal door handles. |
|
Cause I get the hell shocked out of me. And when I go to the stores, I'm shocked when I touch metal shelves or freezer doors. I love winter, but I can do without the static.

9. Believe here is what you do |
|
1)Take a scented or unscented fabric softener/static cling sheet and rub it all over your clothing and then put a few in your pockets.
2) Get a can of spray on anti-cling spray and spray it everywhere you are.
3) Humidify your surrounding with a small portable humidifier.
Kissing without shocks since 2003!

15. You can do it without all the wasteful environmental damage with humidity |
|
Don't need all that disposable stuff - a simple humidifier in the house will keep the shocks to nothing.

12. Do what I do (at home, anyway) |
|
Get a couple of fish tanks. Leave the top open. You'll have to top off the water every few days, but it makes a huge difference. When at home, I only get shocked (or shock) when I'm petting the cat. (That was NOT a euphamism. Get your minds out of the gutter, people! )

13. I was working at a post house once and they had BAD static |
|
in the rooms. They were worried that it would damage the computers (mac/avid) so the tech support guy misted the carpet w/ water. It worked, no more static.

21. No, but my cable's been on the fritz... |
|
...and my cellphone's reception has been poor, too. Couple all of this with the recent failure of the Mars rover, and one could only come to the conclusion that Rove did it!
Of course, the Clenis might've had a hand in this too...
