Go late so that the squirming children won't be in attendance. This isn't a "kid's" movie, and there were squirmers at the show I attended.

Peter O'Toole is wonderful. This is one I'd own and view a dozen times. Not that I'm as passionate about what I love as Remy is about food...

1. Do any of the rats die?
The one reason I stay away from movies (even animations) about animals is that, usually, an animal dies or some other really sad thing.

2. Nope.
"Chicken Run" suprised me with the death of one of the chickens, although I understand that it formalizes the dynamic and the need for freedom.

On the other hand, not nearly enough Ewoks die in the Star Wars films. You could make a video game of just shooting Ewoks and I'd buy it. And I don't play "killing" games, unless they're robots, etc.

6. There's one scary bit...
... where you see through the window of a rat-catcher's shop, with what looks like real dead rats on display. But otherwise there's nothing sad or traumatizing.

4. We're planning to go this week...
I always take my kid to a midweek matinee. Sometimes we get the theater to ourselves!

5. I love midweek matinees.
If I'm lucky enough to have time off during the week and there is a movie that I want to see, those afternoon matinees are great! I did it last week for Hairspray, it was raining so it was a bit busier than normal, but it was still a great time to go. Saving three dollars on a ticket also helps.

11. What I liked best was the biggest strength of the film was in the characters and story.
The animation is incredible but just a bonus. Remy is easily the best animated character I can recall in any film.

I thought this was very moving, it made me cry a bit at the end.

12. Ratatouille good? It was noisy and it made me dizzy. All those narrow escapes crossing the kitchen
or the street. It all just seemed so repetitive. I guess I am in the minority. Its doing big box office.

13. Maybe not.
I'm really leery about spending money to see it after the Madagascar hype...and then the reality.

14. Pixar isn't Dreamworks!
The quality of the Pixar stories and animation have blown away any other studio's animated offerings.

15. It was awesome!
Though I do admit the hordes of teaming rats, not individual characters, did make me squirm a little. I recently trapped a mouse in my house! :P But I stuck with it.

But the storyline and the characters are top notch. I found it very inspirational at a time when I need all of those kinds of messages I can get.

That kitchen is so realistic, the floor, the copper pots, the flames on the stove, it looks like something you'd see on Food Network.

And the animation is so good, at times it looks like photography. You can forget you're watching CGI.

I loved every minute of it. I can't wait for it to be on DVD, etc.

If you have iTunes, go and check out the behind the scenes clips. Good stuff there!

17. Best animated movie I've ever seen!
I've already seen it 3 times, and will buy it on dvd when it comes out. Considering that it's ultra-conservative Disney holding the cards and the setting is in France, I expected some right-wing lunacy. Fortunately I am surprised they didn't sink to that level.

18. It occured to me when watching it
That Ratatouille is a kind of big, sloppy, wet one to the French from us. It's a great big ole love letter to Paris and all things French.

I fervented hope this film will make up for the "Freedom Fries"

21. Er, I work for the mouse. The company overall is not "ultra conservative"
we have "gay days" at the parks (not officially sponsored, but not discouraged either) and Disney gives benefits to same sex partners. Most managers that I've known personally for the past 18 years are liberal-only the top brass is conservative, and even there it is and has been a mix.

19. Loved it too. I worked as an animator for Disney Feature animation
years ago (interned during the making of Mermaid, left during Lion king). Brad Bird, the director, would come to the studio to give us lectures on film making, symbolism in film, storytelling, etc.-he's brilliant. Loved the "Iron Giant' and enjoyed "the Incredibles", but I think Ratatouille" is his best yet. I went with a couple of other former animators and we were all impressed with the high quality of the animation; timing, expressiveness, acting. Really well done. In the past CG animation has felt "cold" to me, but with Ratatouille Pixar has finally made us 2D dinosaurs completely obsolete!

20. That really struck me
the amount of detail in the frames, how deep the shadows go. It's a very multidimensional world.

You know how when you are a kid you wish you could step into your favorite cartoon? Ratatouille looks like I'd be very comfortable there.
