1. School should be year-round
But the pukes would find a way to hate that too; anything to improve students is a big no-no because they (a) don't want a middle class and want to ensure that (b) the wealthy elite remain few and restricted to only people they want.

Like has been said, America wants a government and society like China's. :-(

5. We need to teach smarter, not longer, LOL.
School, as is, especially high school, leaves out some pretty important stuff.

How to balance a checkbook. How to vote. How to invest money.

I'm not sure if those are "school things", but more days of 'proving an equilateral triangle" and dissecting frogs... I don't know that it will make kids smarter or have a stronger desire to learn or a strong work ethic.

13. You misunderstood me.
I am not saying those things are not valuable.

I'm just saying that I don't know that they need more time for it than they already have (by increasing the school year), particularly when life skills are so grossly neglected.

And a part of me does wonder if we need to teach calculus to a kid who's going into fashion design, for example. I could be persuaded either way. I strongly feel it's important to be well rounded, and I absolutely believe there should be mandatory exposure to every subject. I just wonder how much exposure there needs to be. Certainly not 12 months of it.

3. by law, not until after labor day
When the labor market was hot a few years ago, the tourism industries in Wisconsin (which is almost as politically powerful as the tavern operators) put the Labor Day thing in place because much of their summer help had to quit a few weeks before tourism season ended...

Of course finding labor isn't a problem for them this year -- couple years ago they had to import foreigners to staff Wisconsin Dells' attractions during the summer. This year, the whole town's staffed by recent college graduates who can't find any other work...

7. They start next week in TN
Southern schools are still required to have x number of days of class but don't want the kids having a holiday on Memorial Day (originally a Yankee holiday) so they have to be done by then.

It's all very stupid.

10. 2 more weeks of vacation!
I'm a college student in Oklahoma (we like to refer to it as the third ring of HELL, it's so F---ing hot here.), and we move in to our dorms at the end of next week and start back to school on the 20th. I'm so ready to go back...but I dread fighting the humidity. :bounce:
