George Washington: Throughout my childhood I was fed the line that "the Father Of Our Country" 'never told a lie'. I didn't buy it as a kid, I don't buy it today.
Jimmy Carter: When interviewed by Sir David Frost in the 1990's (see rebroadcasts of "In Their Own Words") and asked if he had ever lied to the American public, answered that he never had. I believed it 100%.
Which one do you believe?

The stuff on Washington was made up by Parson Weems. Carter is really sincere, and my embodiment of a true Christian. Of course the right wing fundies have condemned him-but I don't consider them Christians in any way, shape, or form. They've just borrowed the name.

Understood that Carter has achieved sainthood in these parts, but I would never believe any president didn't at any time ever lie to the American public.

the cherry-tree was always known to be a myth. Jimmy Carter neveer told a lie? Nonsense. First of all he was a politician. Natural born liars to a man. Repuke, Democrat, or 3rd party whacko, every one of them.
