I saw "Crash" last night - WTF????
That movie got the Academy Award????

WTF???

Don't get me wrong, it was OK. OK like Short Cuts, 10 Grams or any other slow moving drama that focuses on lots of characters rather than a few.

But was it better than Little Miss Sunshine? You gotta be smoking potpourri if you think so...

For one, every scene was drawn out, way too long. That could have been a 90 minute movie, but instead every scene was stretched out into what seemed like eternity.

The acting was good, but they hired good actors. What do you expect?

And although I know LA can be like that, the sudden convergence of any and all racism during a short period of time seemed unlikely.

The one thing I will say, however, is that anything could happen to anyone at anytime. That at least kept me interested.

One question: When the daughter of the Persian shopkeeper put the gun away at the end of the movie, did that show that she had loaded the gun with blanks?

1. Terrible movie.
Different year than Little Miss Sunshine though.

Yeah, the persian lady loaded it with blanks. The dad is still a crazy violent middle eastern who committed attempted murder, but hey, racism is bad.

:eyes:

I swear to god this movie was so cheesy it's like watching two hours of those "Foundation for a Better Life" commercials.

2. "Crash" wasn't competing with "Little Miss Sunshine" that year.
It was, however, competing with "Brokeback Mountain" which I expected to win Best Picture. And I thought "Brokeback Mountain" deserved to win Best Picture.

But the voters of the Academy thought otherwise.

5. That was it - "Brokeback"
I remember Crash was up against a movie I had seen, that deserved it. Now that I saw its competition, I do think it was a shame even more.

6. Brokeback is certainly a better crafted story
"Crash" is all over the place and can't decide what it wants to be.

8. Ack - I made it about half way through that movie.
I thought it was annoying.

To each her/his own, eh?

4. Sorry but I did really like it

If it is any consolation, the guy who wrote the screenplay, he was down on his luck until the movie got backing and did so well.

So his life really really sucked until at about the age of fifty three.

And come on, there have been much worse winners of the AA.

9. I did, too
I wanted "Brokeback" to win so bad, but "Crash" was a good movie. It could have been MUCH worse.

7. I thought it was great.
Difficult to watch at times, but things that are true are often hard to stomach.

It was a little drawn out at points.

Little Miss Sunshine was a work of absolute depressing and beautiful genius.

10. The guy demanded the red box of shells if i remember
He didn't know he was buying blanks.
It was a disturbing movie..The part where the little girl ran out to save her dad had me in tears..

13. Right -- she knew her Dad had a bad temper and was impulsive
She knew what might happen -- and it did.
