This is not a post fishing for sympathy |
|
I just wanted to say that I was in a pretty nasty car accident this afternoon on my way back from Austin. My left front tire blew out on I-35 and I spun out across the grass median and into oncoming traffic. Fortunately, only the back end of my car was hit, I was not injured, and neither was the other driver. This is my first car accident. I've driven for 4 years without so much as a speeding ticket. I'm a little shaken up, but altogether unscathed. My car did not fair that well. The trunk got bashed pretty bad, but amazingly the glass on the hatch didn't shatter. The metal's pretty crunched, but there is a good chance it is repairable. The other driver was able to drive away, so I assume the damage was not as bad on his end.
At least I don't have to drive that much.

2. Thank goodness you're okay. |

The car can be replaced, but personal injuries are a nightmare with insurance.
Take care. I hope it works out for you.

5. Serious questions for you- Just curious ;) |
|
First off, thank god you’re alive and the only damage was to property. I work for a major tire company testing tires. Out of curiosity, what brand tire was it, what design and describe the failure mode? (Sidewall separation, tread separation, bead failure?)
I am glad you controlled the vehicle as well as you did! It sounds like it was an e-ticket type of ride.
Remember fellow d.U.ers... always have both hands on the wheel! The only spare ANYTHING the car company supplies with a new vehicle is the tire. I might also add that if you do ANY highway driving, don't buy el-cheapo "discount" tires. Get a decent temperature rating and the right tire for your driving habits. A fine example is the SUV owner that has off-road tires that never touch dirt. Check your air pressure on a regular basis- the lower the pressure the less load the tire can carry.

8. Get yourself checked out anyway |

Sometimes injuries from car accidents don't show up till a couple of days later.

This must be your lucky day. Most Interstate accidents don't turn out as well as yours. Glad it turned out OK for you.

13. Damn! Sorry to hear that. The most important thing is that no one was |
|
injured. It was just supposed to be a Sunday morning brunch... Not a brunch and a blowout. I've had a couple of blowouts before, but I was lucky because it was one of the back tires both times. A blown back tire will not cause you to lose control of the vehicle.
Glad that you're alright... Sorry about your car, man.:(

15. Your front left blew and you went into the medial? |
|
Interesting. I know you may not know, but did you go in backwards?
Congratulations on not getting creamed worse, or hurt. I have been there, done that too many times. (Once is too many)
Seriously, if you develop any weird leg/arm shoulder/hip pains in the next few weeks, get them checked out. Don't ignore them, they will come back to haunt you when you are older.
