If you moved tomorrow, where would you move to?
The reason I ask is that I'm really thinking about moving within the next year. I was considering a move back to Chicago, or maybe to the D.C. area. Where would you go?

Chicago is an awesome city. Even though I love the Bay Area, I miss Chicago like crazy.

7. That's the obvious part.
Living in Florida is bad enough, but this town is like the elephant graveyard of America.

29. I'll second that. I lived in Miami, the "hell hole of the South,"
most of my life until I wised up and moved here to the Atlanta area. Move here. It is ideal for everything. Prices are lower for everything. We have near-perfect weather (except for this summer) year 'round.

If it weren't for that whole "being in the south" thing, I'd consider moving there.

11. Let me see...
If I could choose...

San Francisco - I visited there last year during an academic conference and loved it. The people were friendly. I liked the multiculturalism (I got back to Georgia and couldn't help thinking how white the place is). Great museums. Even better food. It's a beautiful city - every two or three blocks, you get a different postcard shot. Muir Woods (one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited) and Mt. Tamalpain are a close drive. Efficient mass transit. I even kinda like the 49ers.

If I could afford the housing and could magically reduce the stress on the fault lines, I wouldn't hesitate for a second.

I am a native US citizen but I can't stand the heat politically or literally in the US. The political part goes without saying and anything over 70 degrees and I feel like I am going to melt.
Good pints, great food (deep fried everything) and the sea what else do I need.... A peat fire and a good book would top things off nicely.

14. I ain't movin' anytime soon
I live in a great high-rise in Boston, with a view overlooking the Back Bay Fens (also know as "The Fenway"). Two minutes to the Gardner Museum, five minutes to the MFA, and 17 minutes from work (walking, of course - I don't own a car). Great arts/music scene. I've told my friends that the next time I move, it wil be feet first, under a sheet! Here's the view out my window:

Man I miss the stars. Waking up and seeing big trees and the smell of the pines. I miss the arts and progressive community that lacks her in Sacramento. Oh, I miss growing my own pot too.

26. Depends on the amount of money I had...
Moderate amount of money: either Raleigh or Charlotte. Maybe Chapel Hill; that's supposed to be nice, although there's just some little cracker university there.

Good chunk of change: either New York City, Boston or Seattle.

A LOT of money: I'd move to Los Angeles and start building my book.

Obscene amounts of money: The nicest town that no one ever heard of in the entire world is Bad Freienwalde, Germany. I'd move there.

Closer to reality: Probably back to Berkeley. Love that town.

But, I'm not moving. Portland is great and much easier to live in if you have a family than the Bay Area is, in general.
