1. "Spiderland"- Slint
Edited on Thu Aug-16-07 02:56 PM by enigmatic

Slint has reformed and is touring and playing "Spiderland" in it's entirety; I wish Radio Enigma had the juice to score tickets!

68. I'm missing all the reunions too.
I had a shot at making a Chicago show, but it sold out too quickly. "Nosferatu Man" live would HAVE to kick ass. I hope the rumors of new stuff are true, too. Maybe that For Carnation reissue set indicates that McMahan is getting back into the game?

98. Wow, that's actually kind of a letdown.
Reminds me of seeing Mighty Lemon Drops once they got bigger - I'm not necessarily a proponent of big staging, but when the venues start to have balconies, bands need to learn to friggin' move around a bit.

There's some stuff from this year's tour on you tube and it's really interesting to see the interplay between the band and McMahon's almost inscrutable tempo/meter signals, especially on Washer and Breadcrumb Trail. Pajo still looks like he's playing by himself in his bedroom somewhere, which I always get a kick out of seeing..

20. I'm reading "early-mid nineties"
as "early to mid nineties" because that's what I assume the dash implies. However, I understand your dispute if you are reading that differently. I agree that 1991 is not "mid"-nineties.

41. There's confusion between a hyphen and a dash here.
Edited on Thu Aug-16-07 04:03 PM by IntravenousDemilo
"Early-mid-1990s" (with a hyphen) would be just as you say -- 1993/1994 -- and not include 1991.

However, "early -- mid-1990s" (with a dash) would mean from the early '90s to the mid-'90s. Xema's mistake was to put a hyphen where a dash (i.e., two hyphens, preferably preceded and followed by a space) should be. I assuming she meant it as a dash rather than a hyphen. Myself, I'd have written "early- to mid-1990s", but I'm not Xema.

And, to support your argument still further, 1991 is even closer to the beginning of the decade than you thought -- it's actually the first year. Since there was no year Zero, decades begin with years that end with a "1" and finish with years that end in "0". Hence the '90s were 1991-2000. And this decade began in 2001 and will end in 2010. And this century and millennium all started in 2001 as well.

Smash by the Offspring as that's definitely an album I played to death when I was in high school (though that was several years past its release and several years after the mid-nineties as well!). For me, it still hold up, though; I know it's not "real" punk (I don't really like "real" punk anyway) but it's a great hard rock album, IMHO.

You're actually a character from the book/movie High Fidelity. You work(ed ) in a record store and made fun of people for buying mainstream pop records. You not only know the release dates of all these records, but their catalog numbers as well. You organize your collection of obscure indie vinyl by sub-category.

I heard this from a big music fan back in the day. Sweet's band got a contract when they were playing in Athens-Mathew worked it so that HE got the deal and dumped the two other guys. He ended up in Nebraska (where he was from) and basically disappeared. He wasn't too popular in the music world.

But then that is just what I heard

65. PJ Harvey's "Rid of Me" is what I would picl
I voted for "Ten" though. It's becoming increasing cool to diss Nirvana, where for a while it was cool to diss Pearl Jam. I think they are both great bands that contributed alot and I am really glad I was young when they were out and in my 20's in the 90's in general.

I can't tell you how many times during my teen years I got drunk listening to that album at my friend's house.

82. I never could get much into Zooropa
"Stay (Faraway So Close)" is a good song, but the rest of it is a bit too avant garde for me. Although I do think Zooropa is the last really talented album U2 made, even if it's not my personal favorite. They've had some good *songs* recently, but the albums have been hit and miss.

Achtung Baby, on the other hand, I could listen to start to finish an indefinite number of times; it's that good.

:hi:

Rattle & Hum is another good album, though not a '90s one.

85. Have you seen the Rattle & Hum documentary?
It's pretty sweet, although Bono had pretty heinous hair.

Pretty much all of 80s U2 is just plain awesome. The Joshua Tree is one of the best albums ever, by any artist, period. And I just love the raw bleeding heart passion of War.

U2 is the one huge megaband I am completely unashamed to admit that I LOVE.

86. Haven't seen it yet.
Actually, it's the only '80s U2 album I have -- I'm more familiar with 1991 until now, though I have heard some of the '80s singles.

Most of the music I listen to is by people who are already dead, but one of my megabands I'm not ashamed to love, aside from U2, is AC/DC.

:headbang: ;)

87. Oh man you gotta get Joshua Tree and War
Two more albums that are great start to finish. The 80s Greatest Hits is an OK compilation, but I wouldn't recommend it if you already have "Rattle" since a lot of the songs are the same. But there are a lot of great non-single tracks on both Joshua and War.

And, dude, OMG, I love 80s metal. AC/DC, Slayer, Dio - :headbang:

Not so much the hair metal like Warrant and Cinderella and Poison though,

"Ten" is by Pearl Jam
"Nevermind" is by Nirvana
"Siamese Dream" is by Smashing Pumpkins
"Licence to Ill" is by Beastie Boys
"Downward Spiral" is by Nine Inch Nails

104. I still live under a rock
Why do you hate rocks? Actually in the 1990s I lived in a small Wisconsin town that only had one radio station which was a country/pop station. Viroqua and Madison were very close but the local station seemed to be smeared all over the dial. Instead of WVRQ of Viroqua there would be an echo of WRCO. I did not mind their format though, they played alot of classic 70s and 80s hits.

I also rarely buy albums, although in the 1990s I joined Columbia music house and bought about 100 CDs, mostly greatest hits, but also some of the country that I liked. I have heard songs from Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Beastie Boys, and really hated those songs, but have never heard anything, that I know of, from the other two.

Now that I have most of my CDs on my computer, I remain blissfully unaware of new and popular stuff that I probably would not like anyway.

107. "Still Feel Gone" was my second choice
They are my all-time favorite band and it's virtually impossible to pick the best out of the four, but "Still Feel Gone"'s songs are the stronest, and (even though I'm a Jay guy)it's really where Jeff Tweedy discovered his songwriting voice..
