Poll question: Which would you rather have: 5 million dollars or 2 more years of life? |
|
And remember, you don't know when you are going to die or what condition you will be in.

4. If I could pick WHICH 2 years to give up, it'd be a no-brainer. |
|
Edited on Thu Aug-16-07 05:51 PM by PeaceNikki
In any case, I think I'd choose the money. It would allow me to provide a level of security for my family when I am gone that I would not otherwise have,
In addition, I would use it to help others.
Live simply so that others can simply live.

|
I'd even trade 2 years of life for 5 million dollars. I don't think I want my last few years anyway.

6. the money without a doubt -- alzheimer's in the family |
|
two more years of life like reagan had at the end or like some of my family members have had at the end is not worth it
give me the cash, enjoy what i can while i can, and when i get funny, let me take a long walk off a short cliff in a town where my family doesn't live and won't have to discover the remains, food for the declining population of rare vultures in some areas of the world

7. Gotta go with the money on this one. |
|
Personal and future family financial security would be such an important thing. It's not like $5 million is as valuable as it used to be, but it's not chump change by any means.
Also, I wouldn't have to work and I could focus solely on my writings/drawings. That would be a BIG plus.

8. What if I was scheduled to die two years from today? |
|
What if I am to be run over by a beer truck in two years? I would have to know when I am to die before I start making any deals.

9. Two more years for me is two more years for EVERYONE! |
|
You see, the earth will be destroyed by an asteroid, and we all will die.
So save the earth, send me a dollar! If I get enough I'll turn down that 5 million dollar offer, and we all win!

I'm flabbergasted that people would choose money over life. On her death bed my mother lamented that she didn't get the extra 9 months her doctor said he would try to get her.

13. clearly your mom passed from something that let her keep her brain to the end |
|
for some of us, this seems unlikely, i've had relatives kept alive with alzheimer's and no quality of life in one case for 20 years
a shorter life and more money is the right choice in my case, given what i know
if i could be sure i would keep my brain until the end, it would be different of course

26. Money was a clear choice for me - |
|
I suspect other posters are coming from the same place I am.
I choose money because I could stop working and spend the rest of my life really LIVING. I'd get to do things and spend time with people in a way I cannot do now, having to do the 8-5 every day and everything else that comes with having to fight to support yourself. I'd get to do things that I'd never get to do otherwise, EVEN if I had 2 bonus years of life. That just seems like a no-brainer to me.

16. Definitely 2 more years |
|
I just love life, and I love my kid and partner. I'm not poor, so maybe it's easy for me to say I'd rather have the years. By no means do I have anywhere near 5 mil, but I have all I need and most of what I want that money can buy.

I'll enjoy while I'm alive...the two years won't mean much in the long run...
Now on the other hand, would I rather have $5 million, or have a loved one live an extra two years...then no question, I'd want that person around two years...

19. The money. Quality over quantity |
|
And $5mil would certainly improve my quality of life. I could travel, give back to my family, set aside some for a rainy day, and live without worrying what I'm going to live on. Life is to be enjoyed, not endured or prolonged by any means necessary.

I'd feel better knowing they were taken care of.
I'd also use some of the money to take big expensive posh family trips to cool places of learning and history.

well, not really because "added" years can really only be added on to the end, right?
So 2 years in my old age, maybe it's hard to get around, remember things, etc.
I think I'd rather have the money to enjoy myself now.

25. The way you phrased it, I'd take the money. |
|
I'd rather have $5 million than two years of unknown quality added on to what was supposed to be the natural end of my life.
If you'd phrased it "would you take $5 million to die two years sooner," then I don't know...what if I'm supposed to have a kid at 33 and die at 34? Save an innocent person from death row at 56 and die at 57? I wouldn't want to erase things like that. Then again, if I'm supposed to die after years of cancer and alzheimer's, I'd want the $5 million.
