Clueless straight guy seeks decorating advice
This is my Fortress of Solitude.

What should I do with it?

3. It already has a fridge
Look under the Janis Joplin poster, a mini-fridge capable of holding just enough beer to get me drunk. We have an Xbox but it lives upstairs to take advantage of all its multimedia capabilities.

Thanks for the suggestions though

2. Ok, you need color
1) get some rugs or a large single rug
2) Get a slipcover for the couch
3) Get rid of the overhead flourescents and get warmer lighting via lamps
4) Do something with those walls
5) Lose the cinder block....not sexay
6) Can you cover the pipes? Yucko.

:)

10. Good suggestions
I'd also suggest putting a warm neutral color on the walls (taupe perhas?) and a light color on the ceiling to make the room feel larger.

If you can spring for new flooring, that would be great. If not, some nice area rugs (agreed).

Either sand your desk and refinish or paint it.

Invest in some better shelving that can hold your items but also hide them from sight.

4. Disco lights and a lava lamp, for sure!
;)

Kidding aside, I would start w/ the floor.

5. 1) What will you do there?
Read, work on the PC (DUing), do "shop" stuff? listen to music?

2) Think about your activities there and construct a layout. Make zones for different activities. Even a small space can seem bigger if you apply zones.

3) How do you want to feel there in that space? Energized? Calm and relaxed? (Here's where you think about your response to color)

4)What kinds of things do you want to touch and look at? (Think about finishes: wood, leather, hardwood floors or carpets? ) Perhaps a leather chair. Perhaps a plain floor. That kind of thing.

What I really would do is box in the pipes so you don't have to look at them, unless you're going for some industrial theme. :-)

Cool space, though.

9. Looks like my first apartment,
Looks good to me.

If left up to me the house would look that way, my housemates brought stuff with them.

11. Plants, plants and more plants
Knock out the wall of planks and install windows.
Grow vines and flowering plants out there. Have several bird feeders.
Get several large indoor house plants.
Add 2 cats and you're done.
