2. LOL
These are garments, Mr. Cratchit.

Garments were invented by the human race as a protection against the cold. Once purchased, they may be used indefinitely for the purpose for which they are intended. Coal burns. Coal is momentary and coal is costly. There will be no more coal burned in this office today, is that quite clear, Mr. Cratchit?

3. I was going to say before your edit
I think that he is legally required to provide you with a jacket if he is going to keep the place that cold.

"There's no such thing as bad weather...only improperly dressed people."

So go mug a polar bear, swipe his coat and quit complaining!

7. Is it really that cold?
How can you stand it? How many layers of clothes do you wear? How does your car start? Does your breath freeze?

9. Yup, it's really that cold
Car starts with the block heater...only problem is at that temp other fluids start to thicken up, like steering fluid and clutch fluid.

I only have a little winter jacket....it's odd even though it's that cold you don't notice it unless you're outside for five or ten minutes.

Yup, my breath freezes...I had to use the ice-scraper on the INSIDE of the car on the way to work.

I actually was just told it's warmed up to about -27 now.

14. It's odd
It'll be really cold like this for a week then it'll be 34 or 36 the next.

Summer is hotter than hell. sometimes it'll be 90 - 100. Where I live has the second most sever temeprature changes in the world

16. I always wanted to work in the prairies
Because I've never been. But after this I'm not making the switch. I'm a 20 minute drive from the prairie ...good enough for me.

Now my goal is the West coast ASAP.

12. What type of heat do you have???
Mine is a gas pump, run with an electric fan. If the electricity goes out, so does the heat. But I rent, so I can't choose; we can't have kerosine heaters, either.

I bet you have auxillary heat, right??

My gas bill (heat only) was $186 for 11/24 to 12/24, and I run it only when I have to!!! And I live in NC, for petes sake!!!

21. Well I may be wrong
Because I just got here. But I think heat is subsidized by the government here. I think in BC, or at least the government sets the rates. May be the same for Alberta

23. It's subsidized, sort of
When the cost of natural gas reaches a certain point, the govt pays the gas companies. The other time this happened, they sent cheques straight to us. We had just moved into the new house with a high efficiency furnace, so we were actually making a profit on our gas bills. :) It won't happen any more, I think the rule is that your bill can't go below zero.

I see they expect it to hit -38 here tonite, with windchill on top of that. That's chilly, even by my standards. I'd plug the van in, I need it tomorrow, but it'll start. The block heater is busted anyway.

Guess who got promoted when the bill for product damage came in?

Coldest I ever felt. And probably ever will.
