Garden Pictures!
Edited on Thu Aug-23-07 08:38 PM by otherlander
My rose plant that had blackspot wound up losing all its leaves, but then in grew a bunch of new ones, which I've been spraying with baking soda and water (Thanks to the DU'er who suggested that!) and now the plant's looking healthy enough:

The new little flower:

A bowl of swiss chard from the vegetable garden:

Harvested some beans and lettuce too:

:9 Post your own garden pics! :hi:

7. That little rosebud looks proud of itself!
Nice job rescuing it.

And thanks for the pics of the greens. It's a nice breather in an otherwise crazy day.

8. Sorry you're having a bad day.
The plant pretty much ressurected itself, though; it's pretty tough. When I first bought it it looked half-dead so they were selling it for a discount. I had to take it inside for the winter and in the spring it just bounced back...

9. I love getting the castoff plants and making them grow again.
I'm not good at it, but when you keep them growing, you feel pretty happy about it.

10. How do you prepare your Swiss Chard?
I have a boat load in my garden and I'm not entirely sure what to do with it.

11. First I rinse it three times or so to get all the grit out
Then saute it with garlic. I usually chop the stems into little pieces but some people just throw the stems out because they can be kinda tough. It goes good with pasta. Kalamata olives are good too. :9

14. The stems are half of the pleasure of eating chard.
I cook the sliced stems first with the garlic, then add the leaves. Sometimes I finish it with a splash of red wine or cider vinegar.

Swiss chard is excellent as a substitute for spinach in dishes like spanakopita or quiche too.

17. Parrot tulip
Those did really well early this spring (their second year -- they didn't really bloom in 2006, after I planted them the fall before).

16. I love the way the shed is surrounded
by all the vines and tall flowers. Looks like somewhere where a wizard would live.

18. Nice :)
Beats our "Death Row" any day of the week. The only thing I'm good at growing is grass and we have plenty of it because i haven't mowed the grass in about three weeks now.
