As it turns out - my purse WAS stolen
I got a call last week from a detective in another city nearby that he may have had some of my stuff, gotten in an investigation of a ring that was breaking into cars and stealing stuff.

I got my postage stamps back.

3. yeah!

I had a great time in a 5'x7' room with a detective, going through the stuff they recovered. I could have said I was missing a GPS unit, since they had about a dozen of those in the haul. But that would not be honest.

5. yeah, it does.
It was stolen out of my car which was parked in my garage (for some reason that day, my garage door did not close... :grr: )

I have let my friend that lives down the street know, because her garage door is almost always open.

11. Yeah!
Detective said that they have three of the ring in custody, and apparently one of them grew up in my neighborhood, so she knew her way around.

I feel really unsafe.

4. Oh, bummer
One of my worst nightmares - I have so much stuff in my purse that would be bad to lose. Of course, if someone stole MY identity, they'd immediately be sorry but it would still be a hassle for me.

I'm glad you got your postage stamps - those suckers are getting expensive.

13. I hope your credit cards are cancelled
and you've put a fraud warning on your social security number with the credit bureaus.

That really, truly sucks. :(

15. It's an easy money theft.
Open garage doors are seen as an invitation and the darn things do occasionally have hiccups. Spider webs on the safety sensor have caused ours to reverse rather than close. There are also thieves who randomly click remotes in hopes that a door will open although I think that was more of a problem with older garage door systems.

There was a rash of nighttime thefts from cars in my neighborhood a couple of years back. The woman never forcibly broke into the cars, she simply went house to house and opened any cars that were unlocked, popping trunks from the dashboard too where she could. She was looking for stuff to sell for drug money.

16. Yeah, something tripped the electric eye on my garage door that day.
All they got from me was 30 bucks.

Detective said he thought the ring members were tweakers.
