Does your cat do this...?
mine licks the venetian blinds...constantly! It gets so bad we have to put them up even though our neighbor could reach through his window and poke us he's so close. What to do? I dont know why, its not like we live next to a Burger King.

Dicos, The Culprit (on the left):

How can we break this habit?

1. Bitter Apple spray
I just bought some to combat a kitten who likes to chew on computer cords. So far, so good.

You can buy it at PetCo, or probably any similar pet store.

2. omg he's pretty
they both are :loveya:
Yah, wipe something nasty tasting on it, spray the blinds with cheap old perfume. Then he'll make the mad pissed-off cat face and leave them alone.

I finally resigned myself to leaving them up just high enough for him to look out.

5. all my blinds look like that
I prefer my privacy so I leave them down. Besides when I pull them up the nutters just jump up and try to get the cord....One good thing they dont do..my younger sister had a cat that LOVED to play with them by banging them around in the middle of the night...I was living with them at the time. BANG BANG BANG...Oy.:eyes:

6. ROFLMAO
you should see my blinds. They've weakly resisted Dicos for a few weeks but recently they gave up all hope and look like yours. We should form a support group!

Quite a handsome cat there. Is it a guy? I always think of black cats as guy for some reason, but now that I look, the faceis mor pointy like my girls...

less fragile type of window treatment.

14. LOL - my blinds look like that too
I can always tell who has a cat by the condition of the mini-blinds!

I finally ended up buying (fake) wood blinds--they are thicker and more durable. But, I still leave them up about six inches.

19. When were you at my house taking pictures?
That is MY window and MY cat, I swear to gawd! When did you stop off in Illinois to take pics?

He has a cat tree in a west facing window with the curtains pulled back, but still prefers to sit in a window where he can mangle the mini blinds. Ya gotta love cats!

Oh--and your kitty looks EXACTLY like my boy Chaucer!

perhaps you and I and our destructive kitties are kindred spirits! I had to move the cat tree a couple feet from my bedroom window to stop them pawing at the blinds :o

I have to leave them down or everybody can see in.

I live in an apartment too; I guess I will lose my deposit for it.

Worse I can't have the windows open because he tears the screens in an effort to get out.

17. I have given up, my blinds stay open most of the time
so mine can look out....are your windows open when they are licking the blinds? I noticed the past few mornings I had condensation on mine, I guess it's been really humid and it builds on the blinds....I remember a few years ago there was something about lead in mini-blinds, so be careful.

24. my cat does the "Lick & Flick"

She comes into the bathroom every morning after I turn off the shower. She then waits patiently until I open the shower door, at which point she delicately walks into the shower, flicking the water off of her paws with each step. Then she licks water from the drain.

At least she doesn't lick blankets compulsively anymore!

if I walk away from them and has been that way her whole life (11 yrs). Things are easier now that I've gone mostly digital LOL but it makes you wonder.

I love that cat picture!

26. Not the blinds, but...
if I have the blinds pulled up, he'll take the pulling-cord in his paw and start licking it (the string part, not the little bell-looking things at the bottom). I have no idea why he does this.

37. Mine licks anything made of velcro
That tongue on velcro makes the most irritating sound. He finds velcro I didn't even know I had...like around a new power cord I just bought. I have a pair of shoes with velcro closures that I try to keep out of his reach.

What goes on in those little heads?
