What to do on four evenings in Hannover, Germany, mid-September? |
|
Edited on Tue Aug-28-07 12:22 PM by Heidi
Learned today that I'll probably need to go to Hannover for EMO (ya'll in the tool, die, mold-manufacturing industries know what this is) to support one of CMW's client companies. I likely will be occupied from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the four days. But what about evenings in Hanover? Is there _anything_? I love the arts (visual, music, architecture), nice (not so meat-based) dining and conversation. Not so great at schmoozin'. Passable German-language skills.
Anyone here been to Hannover?

I'm not so good with parties and probably even less so with drunken beerfests.

I can do that in Ticino without ever leaving the house. x(
The hotel has high-speed internet. Maybe I'll just order room service and post at DU.

7. Yes I lived there for 3 years ! |

Und ich vermisst Hannover sehr ! I lived in a village by the Steinhuder Meer called Mardorf. Very quiet country landscape - total peace. Whatever you do go towards the Ernst August statue right in front of the main Deustche Bahn train station in the center of town. There are a lot of cafes and restaurants , biergartens to enjoy into the evening. Check out the Staatsoper, der Herrenhauser Garten,Schloss Marienburg (Marienburg Castle),Wilhem-Busch-Museum,the Kestner Museum,Sprengel Museum, and the Berggarten. This is a short list of recommendations but I hope you enjoy the city as I did. I really loved living in the greater Hannover area. Its very beautiful. I am jealous of anyone who gets to go back there.
Viel Spass !:hi:

9. I've been there for an afternoon. I took a walking tour. Here's a Wikipedia link: |
|
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HanoverHere's a link in English for the CIyt of Hanover: http://www.niedersachsen-tourism.com/en/regionen-staedte/staedte/hannover/index.php2/3 of the city was bombed into oblivion in WWII, so there is much new (post WWII) architecture. The city feels very modern.
