I spent an hour in the blistering sun waiting on the bus yesterday, and got burned like hell on my arms. Thankfully I was wearing my hair down, which helped to protect my face and neck, but my face is a bit red too. There is no shade *anywhere near* the bus stop, and walking 100 feet away to the nearest source of shade in not an option. If I move, I lose my spot in "line" for the bus, which means I will be one of the last people to board said bus, which means all the seats will be taken, which means I'll have to stand up, hang on, and try not to smack people in the face with my backpack until the bus gets to the student resident dorms to drop a large percentage of the bus riders off, thus freeing up some seats. (Longest. Run-on. Sentence. Ever.)
On a more positive note, the WVU newspaper (called The Daily Athenaeum,
http://www.da.wvu.edu/ ) is currently hiring student columnists and writers. I filled out my application last night; now I'm deciding which three of my writing samples will impress them the most. I can't imagine a more wonderful thing to get paid for than writing a column in a newspaper, especially if it's an editorial column or a political column.
I better go shower now. I've put it off as long as I can. It will be a tepid shower, though, because hot water + sunburned arms = OUCH.
