We're off to go camping down in Big Sur this weekend!!

It's an annual tradition we do every Labor Day w/e with three other families down at Pfieffer Big Sur Campground. We'll have 17 of us, altogether, so it should be fun. 9 kids, 8 adults. We always do communal, pre-planned meals, too, which means each family doesn't have to bring as much food! :thumbsup:

We're hoping to get on the road as soon as the kids are home from school. I'm looking forward to getting down towards cooler temps on the coast. It's pushing 100 right now in Scotts Valley. Whew!

12. No rain, lots of fog though.

We were driving up to Oregon and we heard there was an ice storm messing up I-5 near Medford.

So we'd figure we'd take a leasurely drive up the coast. We didn't count on the flu. The drive the next day from Monterey to Eugene on 101 wasn't that much fun either.

14. Quick story.

On vacation, rental car, car gas gauge below empty, 10 o'clock at night, dense fog, open range and Fort Bragg fifty miles away.

15. The drive on the second day through the Redwoods was worse.

It was like driving through fucking Appalachia. South of Eureka some damn hillbilly started harassing us, tailgating us. We'd come across those passing lanes and I'd pull over to let him pass and he'd pull in behind us with his highbeams on. And when I tried to lose him he'd be right behind us. It was like that movie Duel. Whole thing lasted about sixty, seventy miles, and I finally lost him with some rather creative driving. I think I must have had a temperature of about 102 by then.

18. Hard to enjoy redwood country having to deal with that.

We had to take a 20 mile detour, south of Weott, and the road we took, and I'm not lying had s curve switchbacks about every 200 feet. That 20 mile detour took us almost 3 hours and put us so far behind schedule, that we ended up driving down Hwy 1 at night, which, if it wasn't for that detour we wouldn't have had to do.
