Should employers be able to sue the estates of employees who die without giving notice?
Suppose somebody is expected to be at work on Monday morning, but dies on the weekend. Is the employer entitled to compensation for failure to receive, for example, two weeks of advance notice?

2. How about when an employer fires their employees....
....on Christmas eve with no bonus? Happens a lot and it's no joke. I think employers deserve to get screwed as much as they screw their employees.

8. No.
Two week's notice is customary, not required.

If notice is required by an employment contract -- contracts generally terminate with the death of a party (if the party is human, anyway), unless the contract provides otherwise. And I can't think of any employment contract that would specifically state the contract would continue after the death of the employee.

The employer is entitled to collect from the estate any debts owed to or property owned by the employer, and the estate is entitled to any unpaid wages or other earned compensation.

I hope that this is just a tacky hypothetical and not an actual problem.

9. Are you in an employment at will state? I think most are.
Notice is neither needed nor enforceable. You are a free agent to come and go without notice. There is no legal requirement for 'notice.' They cannot withhold any benefit due such as vacation pay. So IMHO, the answer is no. If they were to try, get an attorney.
