Momentous decision - I want to get married
For the first time in my life - including the two times I WAS married.

Man, my stomach hurts just thinking about it.

Part of it is for completely mundane reasons. Protection of our few assets. Emergency medical decision issues. That sort of thing.

I've never looked at marriage as necessary for love, feeling you can be in love and committed without it. I still feel that way.

But it's suddenly dawned on me, for the first time, the value of the symbolic commitment. I guess because, for the first time, I'm with someone I want to make that commitment to.

He's proposed to me at least 20 times in the 6 1/2 years we've been together. Guess I'll find out tonight if he really meant it. :P

:scared:

5. Excellent idea
Could stack the deck nicely in my favor.

On a completely different note, I was thinking of you when I was climbing Lassen Peak. The trail winds back and forth in switchbacks and you can look up and see other hikers above you. It reminded me (the oddball history buff) of photos of the Burma Road and made me, of course, want to yell, "Burma!"

However, I was out of breath to begin with and there was no one around who'd get the joke, so I simply said it to myself. :P

8. That's really kind of odd
considering that Mt. Lassen isn't the mountain with the biggest tits in the world.

15. Just don't ask him over a Ouija board.
Seriously, though, congratulations and best wishes to both of you.

4. The time is right, this time.
Your heart tells you to not hold back, so don't. I put everything on one roll of the dice 17 years ago when I told (the then-to-be) Mrs R to go to the American Airlines counter at the San Jose airport, where she'd find a one-way ticket to Connecticut waiting for her.

I spent the last $600 I had to my name at the time on that ticket, and have never regretted doing so.

You must follow where your heart leads you.

13. The trip did have something to do with it
I ended up missing him by the end of it which is not like me. I love to travel alone and always have - in the years we've been together I've taken several solo trips and had a great time without missing him significantly.

But I did this time. And when I got home, it was so good to be with him. It reminded me of all the reasons I love him and want to be with him for the rest of my life. He's just the coolest person I know.

Jesus, I'm making myself sick with this sappy shit. :P
