Riddle

A man goes to a gas station and puts slightly over $5 worth of gas in his almost empty tank. Inside he withdraws a large amount of money all in twenties from the ATM and pays with one of them. He then goes to another gas station, puts the same amount in, pays with the $10 he got at the last gas station and goes on. He then gets the same amount of gas at a third station, pays with a 20, and repeats the process a few more times. At his last gas station stop he tops off his tank and pays with a credit card. Then he drives off.

Where is he heading?
