Green Bay man pleads not guilty in fatal hit-run
Warrichaiet accused of hitting man, leaving him in windshield
The Green Bay man who allegedly drove home drunk with a dead man's body thrust through his windshield pleaded not guilty to four felonies Friday. Steven Warrichaiet, 40, made a brief appearance before Brown County Circuit Court Judge Peter Naze, who in turn set Warrichaiet's case for a Nov. 26 jury trial.
Warrichaiet is accused of killing Tyrone Ware, 50, and injuring Joann Carroll-Hildahl, 41. They were walking together at 11:57 p.m. July 8 near Elizabeth and Smith streets when both allegedly were struck by Warrichaiet's Dodge Intrepid. Ware's body was lodged in Warrichaiet's windshield.
Warrichaiet allegedly drove nearly a mile to his Eastman Avenue home and parked in the garage with Ware's body still in the windshield. He allegedly called his sister and said he had killed someone and then fell asleep on the couch. He awoke and notified police about six hours later.
When police arrived, Warrichaiet's blood alcohol level was 0.18 percent, more than double the 0.08 percent threshold of legal intoxication for drivers in Wisconsin.
