1. Yankees, Jets - which is unusual.
Most Yankee fans are Giant fans and most Jet fans are Met fans.

4. The All Blacks Rugby team from New Zealand.
Edited on Tue Sep-11-07 10:15 AM by Reciprocity

There is a ritual in the All Blacks team. Before the game starts, the players will gather at the center of the rugby field and face their opponents fiercely. Then they begin some kind of a war-dance. In Maori language, this ritual is called the "haka".

The haka is part of the Maori warrior's conditioning for war and battle.

Ka Mate! Ka Mate!
Ka Ora! Ka Ora!
Tenei te ta ngata puhuru huru
Nana nei i tiki mai
Whakawhiti te ra
A upane ka upane!
A upane kaupane whiti te ra!
Hi!!

Translation:

It is death! It is death!
It is life! It is life!
This is the hairy person
Who caused the sun to shine
Keep abreast! Keep abreast
The rank! Hold fast!

I'm in hog heaven right now, because the Rugby World Cup (held every four years) is being held for over two weeks in France.

39. Hawai'i Warriors (American) football team performs the haka as well
indeed, it has become a flashpoint of controversy of late, with last week's opposing coach bellyaching about it and getting us penalized 15 on the opening kickoff!

http://starbulletin.com/2007/09/11/sports/story01.html

HOUSTON » Hawaii quarterback and team captain Colt Brennan blasted the Western Athletic Conference yesterday for penalizing the Warriors for their pregame haka performance.

UH was assessed a 15-yard unsportsmanlike penalty and kicked off from its own 15 to start its game at Louisiana Tech last Saturday. The Bulldogs took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Warriors came back to win 45-44 in overtime.

"I'm very disappointed and sad our conference would try not to allow it," Brennan said. "That tears at what college football is all about. We're representing a culture that is very unique. If it intimidates and scares a coach, that's his problem."

Brennan referred to LaTech coach Derek Dooley, who said he "knew it was a point of emphasis," and conferred with officials before the game.

Hey Coach Dooley! Here it comes...

43. Quite the contrary, they suckered us into a penalty
by being on the field pre-game during the haka. That is apparently considered "unsportsmanlike conduct" similar to taunting. Go figure.

Bear in mind this is a team that's being touted as "this year's Boise State". It all almost came crashing down in September -- because of a 15-yard haka penalty! :eyes:

NCAA: Arkansas Razorbacks and whoever is playing Texas Shorthorns

MLB: St. Louis Cards and whoever is playing pond scum (i.e., NY Mets)

NFL: KC Chiefs and whoever is playing the Denver Broncos or Dallas Cowboys

NBA: I loathe the entire NBA.

I also love all of the Olympics and root for the USA in all sports. Even sports I don't ordinarily care about -- I care about them during the Olympics. I never root against anyone in the Olympics.

Those are the only sports that get any attention from me.
