1. I assume one bought the other, but wanted to keep the name
I would also assume that until the Thickburger came out both chains were in marginal financial shape and did not want to risk the business going down in an attempt to rebrand one or the other.

11. Hardee's in the east is nothing like Carl's Jr. was in the late '80s.
When I lived in California in '87 Carl's Jr. was awesome. Fried breaded zucchini served with ranch dressing. A yummy western cheeseburger topped with onion rings and bbq sauce. The Hardee's in the east nowadays are nothing like it.

13. Then I'll gladly trade you an east coast Hardee's
for a Carl's Jr. If you agree, I'll notify corporate headquarters and have them get on it immediately. :P

10. Branding, of course.
After Hardee's bought Carl's Jr., they didn't want to just sweep in and change everything. People like Carl's. (At least, I did when I was a kid in California.)

15. Funny thing - I will gladly eat at Carl's Jr., but I will not eat at Hardees
Not sure why, but Hardees food is nasty. Carl's Jr is palatable.

Red Dog beer.

If you do you shall reap the consequences. You have been warned.
