They're "Upscaling" the Strip Mall where I work. Heh, heh.
Edited on Mon Sep-17-07 06:07 PM by Sugar Smack
Of course, to do that they have to knock everything down, tear up the facades before they start classying it all back up. The place is a danger zone! I can't go to work without my hard hat. There are orange pylons, bulldozers, cement mixers, etcetera. Ah, but once it's all done and the place is as lofty as it needs to be, it'll be a HAVEN for aristocrats. We'll greet royalty with open arms.

Now I'm working in a dress shop (ME! Voted most likely to never give a rat's ass about clothes!). Our clothes drive the ladies wild. And the shoes. You should see their, um, enthusiasm. I hear the word "cute" no less than 50 times a day, and so have developed an arsenal of other adjectives, like "flattering" and "classic".

So anyway, I like my job. The walking is great exercise & the women I work with have the best attitudes. But I had to bite my tongue at a meeting this morning. Seems like the sales are down. My thinking's that it's because the strip mall looks like someone's wrecking ball came swiftly and cheerfully through it.

I'd love to see how dramatic the change is.;)

Where's the love, guys?

19. If it's a strip mall, there must be strippers, it's the law. nt

8. Not for me, sweet boyo.
I get to stand there and ask anxiously, "Oh, does it fit? Is is okay?" It's just so out of character for me to care about that kind of stuff. I do have respect, though.

I've missed you! How is your life? How are things, roomie? Yes, I work in a boutique *LOL* and they made me watch a motivational tape starring guys who were on crack, I think.

7. My life is great! Things go very well!
I've missed you as well.

Did the motivational tapes motivate you to get high? :D A boutique - you SO aren't the "boutique type". But hey, it's a living, right!

9. It's a living. It's rather nice, I think.
This was a tape about guys working at a fish market. They kept stressing the importance of having FUN, FUN, FUN at your job. They took their fun VERY seriously. They (my opinion) may have overused the word "happy". They threw fish at each other and hopped about. I violated the dress code today and got a gentle reprimand.

:7

Wrong shoes.

10. Was it at the market in Seattle?
Those guys DO love their jobs. A lot. Who knew throwing fish around could be so fun?

Wrong shoes? Sigh...what, black Docs with faded jeans is a fashion faux pas now? :D

14. How far have I fallen that "Fashion No-No" burns my face so badly?
I was in the office. And I mean NOTHING but the hard facts of life can sway me. I've been to Alaska. I'm tough. So who can explain how mortified I was at that very gentle reprimand? I've been rescued by the Coast Guard off Mink Bay, yet my faded pants are a source of mild horror.

Woo. I need me a punch line. And I think it WAS the Seattle Fish Market. Maybe I could go work there and caper around. I'm good at that.

15. I think you need a place where you can be yourself!
You have a conscience and you want to do well, that explains your feelings at the rebuke, no matter how gentle.

Seattle is nice. I fly into their airport all the time. :)

16. Just to torture myself, I like to walk past this Outdoors Shop
where they are hiring. Camping goods, tents, everything. Coleman everything. Freeze-dried goods. Climbing gear. I don't know ONE outdoors person who's an asshole.

22. If you go to the Pike Place Market at 6:00 a.m in the winter....
They sing sea chanteys.....

I bought a salmon there and took it to New York for a barbeque. They cut the salmon up into steaks and we didn't know how to cook it. So we called the number on the box and there is a guy there who answers the phone and tells you how to cook your fish!

3. Definitely lovely to be reading your posts again!! But I've got to ask,
what color is your hard hat? :D

How long before they finish the reconstruction? And I agree; when a mall looks like it's got a wrecking crew around, people do get a teensy bit apprehensive...

12. OOh, ooh! My hard hat is yellow, I'm sure.
It goes with my Pollyanna disposition. I think Xmas Season is when they'll taper off. Oh, yes, Xmas season. You know how it is when people Xmas shop? Well, I'll tell you. They feel a need to get "a little something" for themselves as a treat. I get to hear "Rudolph" again & again, buddy.

I've missed you something fierce.    :yourock:

13. SWANK is the word. I'm just this yahoo tripping off the boat
out of "outdoors world" land, into some paradise fashion island, my baby. Where they breathe shirt and skirt dyes! I cannot use the word "cute" because I have a minor intolerance to it. I try to find a way to field the barriers, and gently suggest something that has "character".

You, bridgit, are the freaking BEST. :loveya: :yourock:

If your phone bill is a concern, call and I'll call you back; I have one of those "all you can eat" long-distance plans.
