Some people may think I'm having brain surgery. :D
Has anyone had one? Am I in for a horrid time?

If they give the right pain meds. Ask about versid. Wonderful stuff. You won't remember a thing.

I wrote that down.
I had the choice of a sigmoidoscopy or the full colon scope. My sister said I'd get better drugs with the colonoscopy so I'm going with that.

2. The day and night before is no picnic in the park. |
|
No solid foods...and some real quality time on the toilet at night.
The procedure itself is no big deal. You get cookies and coffee after!! :-)

5. My wife had one in December |
|
She is 52. It was an outpatient procedure and I had her home in bed by noon. She was in the hospital for about two hours. She was groggy from the medicine they gave her. After a few hours rest she was up and about. She was back to work the next day. I hope you have a safe and healthy procedure.

The worst part is the prep day before!
The colonoscopy itself is super because you get mighty fine drugs and feel nothing.
No worries - I wouldn't kid ya. :toast:

7. Better than a sigmoidoscopy |
|
Since they don't go in as far, they don't knock you out. I just love those words, "you are going to feel some discomfort."

the worst part is drinking the icky stuff the night before. And even that's not horrible -- its just like somebody told you you had to drink three gallons of gatoraide.
You are pretty darn relaxed during the procedure - you wont feel a think

11. As an important ditto to OhMyGod's post |
|
Let me stress that you will not remember shit. And so make sure the significant other assigned to watch you for 24 hours after the scope is fully aware of this. You will talk clearly and lucidly and seem completely normal to him/her, but if he/she makes the mistake of saying, for instance, "Hey, turn the water off when the tub's full" you will awake the next day floating in 10 feet of water. So many people make this mistake. Your SO also shouldn't choose that day to come out to you or have a state of your union conference, cuz it'll be Groundhog Day all over again tomorrow.
Otherwise, your problems are solved as soon as the IV drip begins.

The prep is uncomfortable but not terrible. The actual exam is easy. Stay calm...it's a good thing to do! :hi:

14. My sister has had these numerous times, and they always give her valium |
|
She said that it didn't put her to sleep, but it made it much easier to deal with. She hated getting the procedure done, though, said it was just kind of humiliating by it's nature.

16. Uh-oh.. you better find a new hiding place for the WMDs. |
|
:)
That's probably the only place they have not looked for and not found them, so you must have them :)
