4. I told my kids that the reason I use |
|
the f word is because:
"You are making me say it!"

3. Microsoft publisher practically does it for you. |
|
It's awesome and I highly recommend it.
Unless you are a Mac user, then disregard this.

Not for schools, but for civic groups, etc.
The best advice I can give you is SAY NO!

Everyone wants it yesterday, but nobody makes deadline. Oedi's Theorem of Volunteer Publishing tells us, "The amount of time it takes for a contributor's article to reach the editor's desk increases by the article's importance to the publication."
You have about 82 "editors," all of whom disagree and all of whom are wrong, and half of whom will change their minds about something that will mean re-doing at least one page when you're ready to go to press. Then it'll take them a week to make up their collective mind, so half the stuff in the calendar of events will be over by the time the newsletter gets out, and you'll get blamed.
I don't even like doing things like that when I get paid for them.

I did the newsletter for an Amiga Users Group many years ago, using the very buggy PageStream 1.something. Getting people to write the content that they promised was the hardest part, and likely to be KW's biggest hurdle as well.

Actually, I am the Historian for the PTA. There used to be a Newsletter Committee, but I think the committee has been defunct for a couple of years, so I guess, naturally, the idea of a newsletter falls to the historian. (My only duties for the PTA have been to calculate the volunteer hours and add my hours report to what is reported to the executive board and the national association.)

The hardest part is going to be getting people to actually write anything worth printing. You might get someone to write something once...
Unless you have a bunch of people there who really love to write about anything you're going to end up writing the entire newsletter ever month.
