NEW YORK (AP) -- Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said Thursday that people concerned about losing freedom to government anti-terrorism efforts should speak out.

The Supreme Court is taking up several terror-related cases this spring, including challenges to the government detention of terror suspects without legal rights.

1. update
I know these polls are meaningless, but I hate to see so many folks willing to give up Civil Liberties. SA is a military town, but I've known a lot of military with a pretty fine understanding of what those liberties really mean.

2. Apparently the people in my former hometown don't know their Franklin.
"Those who would exchange liberty for security deserve neither."

4. Sorta like how they whine about Social Security, but...
...if Grandma's check is 30 seconds late, they're on the phone to their Congressman.

5. That is SO San Antonio!
I've got a picture of the grey-hairs trying to navigate Broadway in Alamo Heights with all the monster SUVs their children drive crowding them.

7. Their leader: Roddy Stinson!
His mantra: "If you got yours, you stole it. If I got mine, I earned it."

8. Do you remember when he was liberal?
Edited on Fri Jan-30-04 11:30 AM by lunabush
Yeah, its all about Roddy (and is that a name for a grown man?) Paul Thompson was the conservative.

Then, Paul died. Roddy stepped immediately into Paul's ultra-conservative shoes. Prior to that Roddy was writing the "I want to thank those two kind strangers who changed my flat tire on 410 in the 100 degree heat Monday rush hour" column.

He had an overnight transformation when there was a hole that he could fill and his salary could sky rocket.

9. Exactly!
Roddy still writes those "nice" columns every now and then, last time I checked it was once a week. I moved from SA almost 4 years ago, and don't read the Excess much. Remember when we had the Excess and the Blight?

10. The Blight - RIP
Not a lotta paper, but at least there was a discernable difference between the two. Two papers, owned there for a bit, by the same publisher, hmmmm. SATX - the home of Clear Channel Communications. What a black mark on a near great "little" town.

Civil rights, use them or lose them.

Sonia

Justice Warns Against Civil Rights Apathy:
"On important issues, like the balance between liberty and security, if the public doesn't care, then the security side is going to overweigh the other," she said.

That would change, Ginsburg said, "if people come forward and say we are proud to live in the USA, a land that has been more free, and we want to keep it that way."
