Jam Session
I'm co-hosting a jam session on Saturday (PM me for location)

I've never met the co-host but apparently he can sing (at least better than me) and plays guitar (I hope)
I've invited a girl who's into hard rock (she mentioned Heart but she knows older stuff) as lead singer
I've invited a bass player who's into the Beatles. He sings a bit. He's been in a band with an album.
I play keyboards, bass, brass, drums/percussion, sing (but it's got to be low - I'm a bass)

I need songs that "everybody knows how to play" so I can make up some sort of a set list.

Yes, I've looked at Top 100 charts, but those are for listening. I need stuff people can actually play.

I'm thinking stuff like:

  • 25 or six to 4
  • Brown Eyed Girl
  • Stairway to Heaven
  • Hotel California
  • We will Rock You

Note, assume complete works of Beatles, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, ELP, Peter FRampton, Rolling Stones - NO COUNTRY!!.

1. Not everybody's gonna know a lot of the same songs, so go with stuff that's easy to pick up.
two or three chords in the structure. "Not Fade Away" is a good example. Just E and A chords with an occasional D, and being in the key of E, it's fairly easy to solo behind.

2. I was planning a lot of blues
as long as I get to pick the keys. If you let the guitar players do it, you end up in F#.

4. Rats.
I was hoping you were in Northern California! I'd be there w/ a C Clarinet, various percussion beasties, and my velvet baritone voice. :D

5. Bo Diddley, Who Do You Love? Not Fade Away,
even Them's song Gloria. The differences are subtle but important since they're all played with the same 3 chords: E, A, Bm7, one and two and y'all know what to do. hope you have a fun jam session
