I'm going to be a great-aunt......
but why can't I be happy about it?

My niece is so young. (almost 22) It's just that she and her husband had all these plans for university and travel, etc, and now she's going to have a baby next spring.

My sister (her Mom) had 8 kids and quite frankly, don't think that choice made her super happy. :( I don't know.....little sad she can't be young and crazy.....there seems to be a rush both in her husband's family and my sister's to have kids right away (they live in quite a traditional, christian area)
Maybe there's a little pressure to be the traditional wife and mother?

9. It was kind of a pun.
But family relationships and ages are sometimes kind of weird.
I'm not a 'great' anything...yet.

For some interesting terminology, google 'great-aunt' and 'grand-aunt'.

5. That I am!!!
:hi:

Actually, I now have two additional great-nephews and one additional great-niece. My nephew got married in May to a divorced woman with three kids. And they are expecting in February. But I am still greatauntoftriplets.

:D

And congratulations to Darth!

8. So it's not weird?
:) I always feel everybody around me is so normal, and I'm so late to doing anything, well, normal. :)

11. It's a little unusual, but not weird.
I grew up with it, so what seemed weird was having first cousins who were your age.

As to Ellen_Forradalom's suggesting that I give you some greataunt tips, lots of hugs and kisses, at least up until that time that they don't welcome cuddling except on their terms. That happened at age four. Now that they are nearly seven, they are getting better at it again. :D

Let their parents or grandparents change the diapers. I never changed one of the triplets' diapers.

13. I just became a great aunt last month
Sort of bizarre. I guess more a great aunt in-law?

Doesn't give one fuzzy feeling with Daddy (nephew) being 21/22 and in jail and all...

I am both a greataunt and a step-greataunt. At least the ones not related to me by blood don't see me as evil. Nor do the ones related to me by blood.

:D

All six are great kids.

On edit: Congratulations, despite the rather odd circumstances.
