Poll question: What is your general opinion of Laura Bush? |
|
On some boards that I go to, Laura Bush is not widely regarded in a kind way. On another board that I go to, the conservatives have decided that criticizing Laura Bush is a no-no and only shows the typical "liberal hatred and vitriol" inherent to the entire left wing.
I don't care for her, and I have gotten to the point where I dismiss her personally for not being a very strong female role model, as well as being "a lesser woman" than someone like Hillary Clinton and Judy Dean for being smart, independent and not as reliant on the men in their lives.
What's the general consensus on Laura Bush? Choose the option that most matches your own, or vote for "other" and tell us your thoughts.

Shallow? yes. But, I mean, what else is there to talk about when it comes to Laura?

8. I never read anything that said the victim was her boyfriend |

from all indications it was a terrible accident caused by the inexperience of a very young driver. I dislike it when I hear DUers refer to Laura as a "murderer". It makes us sound like the disgusting freepers we despise.

it's in previous threads - actually, any thread about Laura - that this "MURDERER" accusation pops up.

i should have just Google'd it and not even brought the issue up because it really isn't appropriate to try and stir up things like that.

married to a mental midget who never stepped out of the country until the taxpayers paid for it. When she cancelled the poets' visit because George might not like some of the poems, she showed her true colors.

Except for promoting books and authors I really never hear much about her. I just assume that her and her daughters stay blitzed as much as possible to forget the monstrosity they live with.

We won't see many more Lauras as First Ladies. Look at the Democratic candidates wives. They're very different than Laura. Their identities are less intwined with their husbands. Laura taught school for a very short time and then became a full-time mother. Nothing wrong with that. However, I resent her being described as a teacher. My mother, 35 years in public schools, is a teacher. Also, why don't the conservatives give Hillary more credit as a mother? Chelsea is a delightful person. Dignified. Poised, And high-achieving. Yet Laura is considered the ultimate wife/mother. Because she's passive? She's wholesome and sweet. My personal preference in a First Lady is someone with a sharp mind who isn't afraid to use it.

I feel sorry for her...she obviously thought she scored when that little sorry assed son of a bitch asked her out...she was a mousy librarian, he must have looked pretty exciting to her.
I think she is overwhelmed in that crime family, and she looks like she is on medication for mental problems.
Sad. Hopefully she will be able to somewhat ditch his ass after this ordeal, and spend his money for the next twenty years.

a drinker (would have to be to be married to George), smokes (deep wrinkles around her mouth), terrified of her mother-in-law (Godzilla prototype), had kids because that's what Babs required, void of any thought, personality, or sense of humor...Stepford wife defined.

It's really interesting to read from Laura. From my european point of view, the difference to Hillary couldn't be bigger. Everybody knews Hillary. Her Book was on top of the german charts, some people are joking she was the 'real' president when Bill was the president. And the affair with Monica? No one cares, a problem between Bill and Hillary and she looks strong from the distance. I think she's very respected, a kind of future woman with real power. When she visits Germany she's invited to talkshows, meets some politicians and in every newspaper are articles about her. She's well known as politician, as mother and of course as wife of Bill. It also known that she's Senator of New York and some think she could be able to be one of the next presidents.
And now, what do you think I know about Laura? Nothing. Niente. Nada. Nichts. Never heard anything about her. Did she really exists or is she a puppet for TV-Cams? So, you see, it's interesting to read something from the wife of this strange man.

I tend to think of her negatively because of who she married, but I really don't know anything about her.
