3. I'm in "wait" mode here at work |
|
Need for some folks to come and take some boxes away so that I have some room to do some more work.
Got any weekend plans?
I'm going to visit w/ my sister tonight. We're going to listen to the Sox game and play poker.

however unpaid :P
Why am I lonely? Well... I'm having one of those days where I feel that I'm all alone, without any support, and defenseless. And unliked. And that no matter how hard I bust my ass, nothing will work in my life.

11. I can for a little while. |
|
Edited on Fri Oct-12-07 10:41 AM by ThomCat
I'm coming into the office this weekend so I can ignore some of my work today and talk instead.
My aunt is getting cataract surgery on one of her eyes today. It's supposedly no big deal, but she has worse chronic pain than I do so nothing is 'no big deal.' I'm waiting for news.
What's up that you're alone today? (edit, because you talked about this upthread already.)
I definitely understand feeling like you have no support. :( I depend far too much on a couple of friends, because without them I truly have no support. I feel guilty needing the help, but without it I don't think I could manage.

12. Actually... let me phrase this in the form of a question... |
|
If you were to work hard, take advantage of each and every opportunity handed to you, but not get anywhere in life... is it unrealistic to expect someone to care enough about you to help you out - help you make something work?
I hope that your aunt's cataract surgery goes well.

13. No, that's not unrealistic at all. |
|
You don't even need to have taken advantage of every single opportunity. Let's give everyone some credit for doing the best they think they can. We are all entitled to a helping hand regardless. :)
That's the purpose of friends and family. They nurture each other.
That's how I figure out who my true friends are, and who my real family is. Do they let me into their lives enough to know and nurture them? Do they care enough to know and nurture me?

16. How are you friends and family... do you have a good relationship with them? |
|
You mentioned that you have two good friends that you lean on... how about your family?
I have a decent relationship with my dad, but my mom and sisters are rather poisonous individuals. I can't trust any of them with my personal ailing.
I do have a group of friends, but I've never gotten on "that level" with them to share my feelings. We're all geeks, so there's nothing touchy-feely about our friendships. They're also well-employed software engineers and I don't think they would understand.
How about you?

30. Family is always an issue. |
|
My opinion, for what it's worth, is that family is a birth defect. Fortunately, it's a birth defect you can outgrow. There are very few people in my family I would ever count on or bother to keep in touch with.
My friends are definitely people I can talk to about anything, or almost anything. But that doesn't mean that I do. There is a bit of distance there, but it's not a wall.
Most of my friends are scattered around a couple of cities though, so I don't get to see them face-to-face much anymore. I can't travel to them, and they can't travel to me for various reasons. That has definitely changed the way things work. But we've found ways to stay close.

17. Story of MY life, kiddo. |
|
I definitely grok.
Life has definitely taken every shot it can right square in the nuts. My life sometimes feels like a cross between "IMPACT: Stories of Survival" and the outtake reel for "JACKASS II": DANGEROUSLY PAINFUL and it always feels like someone on the other side of the screen is getting one HELL of a good laugh.

I very much do.
Sometimes I'm so tired... just exhausted mentally. I sometimes want to give up: why try to continue my education? Why try to push onward in politics, etc.? Why try to shop my writing, etc.? Why try when it all seems so futile... that my attempt to make my life more interesting simply will not work.

SO and I get more joy and satisfaction from the dogs than any other single source.
That's why we are both on the Jitter Track: we may have to foster out 2 of them and try and move out of town in this LOUSY real estate market.

19. That's true... it takes a while. |

However I'm running out of time before the "kid thing." I think staying at home with children is akin to death. I wouldn't be able to stand it.
Actually I already have my Master's in Media Studies. I graduated in May 2006. I am working hard on getting into the PhD program at the same school, including refreshing my expiring GRE scores. Although it's highly competitive, I think I have a shot. I applied last year and was waitlisted. We will see.

|
Then I had my daughter. I'm home with her til kindergarten, and never felt freer. Except I miss socialization (that's why I'm on here!)Now I get to paint and be a political activist, things I never had time for when I worked full time.
Good luck, I hope you get into your program! I have thought of PhD too...I am a school addict methinks.

15. Hey, somebody loves you... |
|
You said that earlier in the week. And I'll sit with you anytime.
Anyway, as the great Robert Zimmerman once said:
Well, they'll stone ya when you're trying to be so good, They'll stone ya just a-like they said they would. They'll stone ya when you're tryin' to go home. Then they'll stone ya when you're there all alone. But I would not feel so all alone, Everybody must get stoned.
Well, they'll stone ya when you're walkin' 'long the street. They'll stone ya when you're tryin' to keep your seat. They'll stone ya when you're walkin' on the floor. They'll stone ya when you're walkin' to the door. But I would not feel so all alone, Everybody must get stoned.
They'll stone ya when you're at the breakfast table. They'll stone ya when you are young and able. They'll stone ya when you're tryin' to make a buck. They'll stone ya and then they'll say, "good luck." Tell ya what, I would not feel so all alone, Everybody must get stoned.
Well, they'll stone you and say that it's the end. Then they'll stone you and then they'll come back again. They'll stone you when you're riding in your car. They'll stone you when you're playing your guitar. Yes, but I would not feel so all alone, Everybody must get stoned.
Well, they'll stone you when you walk all alone. They'll stone you when you are walking home. They'll stone you and then say you are brave. They'll stone you when you are set down in your grave. But I would not feel so all alone, Everybody must get stoned.

Personally, I'm so edgy I could jump out of my skin. Little sleep, anxiety, the City Council meeting is on Monday, and it's another God Damned situation where I could end up financially stretched to the limit, OR, I could catch a break.
And the only people here today are the damned Republicans for whom anyone's troubles are a source of amusement.

After encountering or witnessing so much of it, one has to question the existence of God. Those damned Republicans: they are evil. Callous. Cruel. They don't care about another person's suffering. They believe that their individual needs come before everyone else's.
It used to be that society scoffed at these traits. People who behaved this way were tarred and feathered, ostracized from the community.
But not anymore, and that makes me wonder whether good will is a limited resource in short supply.
