John Connor is a self absorbed asshole who could have saved humanity if he had not interfered with
the T-800's mission to kill Sarah. There I said it.

14. He saved what was left of humanity. Had he not intervened, the events that led to his future would
not have occurred including his inception and birth.

That's not John's fault.

18. Good point. John's fault is that he did not test the timeline protection theory. He was guided by
his memory of past events. One option for him was to kill Reese rather than send him back.

9. I am not sure.
If Kyle hadn't been sent back, the T-800 would have killed Sarah.

I assume your argument stems from the presumption that if the T-800 has successfully killed Sarah, it would have self-terminated, destroying its advanced technology so that it could not be reverse-engineered by some company like Cyberdyne. No technology, no Skynet. No Skynet, no nuclear war. No nuclear war, no need for John Conner to save humanity.

I'm sensing some impending paradox here, though, because the technology DID travel back in time. There seems to be some loop in the timeline that may not be able to be smoothed out.

There may be another loop in the timeline that was overshadowed by the T-800/Skynet loop. If at some point in the more distant future, say, 2035, Intel had developed by their own work the type of advanced chip found in the T-800, some person from the future may have sent that Intel technology back to the 1990s with the idea of making himself or a relative wealthy. Skynet is still developed as a result of a reverse-engeineered Intel chip and the war still happens, with the result that Skynet sents a T-800 with the evolution of the reverse-engineered Intel chip back to the 1990's.

Then the events as dictated in the "Terminator" series happen, with Skynet being developed from a chip reserve-engineered from a T-800, which was originally reverse-engineered from a Intel chip in a now-defunct timeline.

Am I making sense?

13. Oh, thank God...
I wasn't sure if I was explaining it clearly, and I have to go to work so and don't have time to re-write it!

I think maybe the Skynet-caused nuclear war may have happened anyway, just later in the future.

23. But this is how Jim Cameron created his OWN future...
Without Jim there'd be no "Terminator." Without "Terminator, there'd be no Gov. Arnold. Now: Extend the time-line out: President Arnold, drawing on ideas from "Terminator," goes on the create all the things the film warned about. The rest is chaos.

Ultimately, I blame Roger Corman.

So Skynet was REALLY software infecting all the servers worldwide, right? No mainframe, no central CPU. EXCEPT when Skynet started the War, wouldn't it have destroyed itself with all those servers? I mean C'MON!
